Job Profile Summary

In accordance with agency Mission, Vision, Values and Goals, responds with/at the request of Springfield Police Department to provide crisis intervention for persons experiencing crisis.

The responder will be responsible for ensuring these identified individuals are provided opportunity to access recommended behavioral health treatment and assist in the process as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Collaborates with Springfield Police Department. Crisis Responder will respond in the community, with or at the request of, Springfield Police Department Officers. Duties may include crisis intervention, safety planning, service assessment and referral, resource navigation, and brief case management services to assist with continuity of care.

  • Coordinates services and develops local systems of care for individuals with behavioral health needs who have come to the attention of law enforcement officials and maintain good relationships with those local systems of care.

  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and officer directives regarding safety or scene security when approaching, on, or leaving a scene/call for service with law enforcement.

  • Ensure that all interventions are documented and tracked appropriately according to all agency standards and governing regulations. Maintain timely documentation, understanding the data collection is vital to the goal of identifying service needs within our community.

  • Assist law enforcement with Involuntary Detention procedures when appropriate.

  • Provide or assist with training and consultation on behavioral health issues for Springfield Police Department.

  • Collect/Review data from collaborative agencies as needed

  • Follow all agency policies and procedures including emergency and corporate compliance policies/procedures at all times.

  • Attend all required conference calls, webinars, meetings, trainings and supervision.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Crisis Services or Designee.

  • Be able to work independently, able to follow direction and accept supervision.

  • Adaptability (ability to perform effectively in the face of changing job demands)

  • Have the ability to maintain a level of professionalism and calm in quickly evolving

  • situations that can sometimes include high stress, verbal abuse, hostile persons, and dangerous situations.

  • Initiative (taking appropriate and necessary action on one’s own)

  • Skill in making decisions in emergency situations.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or higher

  • Prefer crisis intervention experience

  • Must be able to pass a background check as required by Springfield Police Department

Supervisory Requirements:

  • None.

Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check.

  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.

  • All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.

  • Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.

Physical Requirements:

ADA Consideration - Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Repetitive movements of hands, fingers, and arms for typing and/or writing during work shift.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
