Qualifications: Education - High School diploma or GED equivalency. Must have a valid driver license. Scope of Position: The Community Services and Volunteer Assistant will provide clerical and project support to the Corps Officer, assist in the management of the Volunteer Program, and volunteers. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Professional: The ability to work in a distinctively Christian environment, the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances. Must possess the self-discipline necessary to perform repetitive tasks without lowering quality of work. Able to work with limited supervision, and work in a team setting with other professionals. Exercises good judgment and be comfortable taking initiative with projects. This can be a high-pressure position to meet deadlines. Equipment: The following equipment may be used: telephone, computer copy machines, calculator, and motor vehicles. Skills & Abilities: Good working knowledge of standard office equipment and systems and proficient with current computer programs including Windows, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and MS Publisher. Strong organizational skills and ability to address multiple projects in a timely manner. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal communication and relationship skills. Detailed oriented. Ability to take projects from beginning through completion in a timely manner. Ability and willingness to keep information confidential. Ability to prioritize tasks. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Social Services Assistant: Answer phones, direct calls and taking messages, as needed. Interview and assess requests for assistance to determine the type of assistance to be provided. Provide direct assistance to meet requests that are within the scope of the Social Services programs. Refer clients to other resources available in the community. Refer clients to corps officer for pastoral contact if client requests. Prepare designated quantities of food and personal items for distribution as needed. Alternatively, help clients make their food and personal item selections in the food pantry. Take inventory of goods on hand as needed. Make orders or inform the appropriate person of the need for replenishing supplies. Re eive food and material orders and donations. Issue receipt for donations of monetary and in-kind gifts. Record amounts received. Stock shelves. Store foods according to established standards, procedures, and Food Codes. Drive vehicle to pick up food orders or donations as necessary. As directed, recruit and orient volunteers and Community Service Workers to the Social Services Department. Provide training and direct them to perform authorized tasks. Provide general administrative and clerical assistance, as assigned by the Corps Officer. Assist in projects, including logistical coordination of meetings and training sessions. Compile and manage databases, as assigned. Organize and maintain filing system. Record and distribute minutes of meetings. Photocopy, type and/or file, as needed. Regular and punctual attendance is an essential job requirement.
