As the Underwriting Associate Supervisor, you are responsible for the following:
Responsibilities:
Manage a team of Underwriting Associates who review and analyze exposures to make independent decisions regarding risk selection for renewals.
Expertly handle escalated underwriting outcomes from an Underwriting Associate.
Communicate with agents in order to help triage production issues.
Assist in the set up and execution of effective process for the management and prioritization of Underwriting production.
Maintain a small territory assignment reviewing renewals according to the established Letter of Authority.
Assist in policy changes as identified in the policy change authority list.
Provide support to Underwriting for all lines of business.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or 5-8 years of related field or equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Insurance Institute of America (IIA) or other related industry designation desired.
Two or more years of experience working in a property and casualty insurance company.
Recommended Qualifications:
Previous experience supervising or providing work direction to an underwriting and support team.
General knowledge of common terms, practices, processes, and regulations in the insurance industry.
Detailed understanding of a variety of moderate to complex commercial underwriting and management concepts, practices and procedures.
Strong leadership skills including effective negotiation, sound judgment and decision-making skills.
Ability to effectively prioritize and assign work.
Ability to manage professional and support staff through performance coaching and feedback with strong interest in developing the skills of others.
An orientation toward achieving success and maturity in leadership and management.
An ability to consistently apply underwriting concepts and practices within the property & casualty underwriting field.
Strong customer service orientation.
Ability to convey clear & concise information to others utilizing excellent communication skills.
Proficiency in use of Microsoft products for the purpose of strategic analysis.
