TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION K507 General Transportation Tech I, II or III with the Dallas District Bridge Maintenance Office in Hutchins, Texas

Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway bridge maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Essential Duties:Essential duties for a General Transportation Tech I, II and III:Assists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs basic welding as needed; as required uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products related to these activities.Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.Maintains construction project records and bridge inspection records; processes related paperwork; reviews files for compliance with the bridge inspection Manual of Procedures.Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs highly skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.Move/picks up litter and roadway debris.Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yard or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower.Operates complex heavy equipment such as a motor grader, large excavator, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavy asphalt paving machine, self-propelled asphalt distributor, and profiling/milling machine.Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including timekeeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI.Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Additional duties for a General Transportation Tech II and III to include:Assists in inspecting traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control DevicesAdditional duties for a General Transportation Tech III to include:Trains other employees.Provides support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; and provides assistance to stranded motorists.Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.
