SAM HOUSTON STATE UNIVERSITY Assistant/Associate Professor of Osteopathic Principles and Practices/Physician - 2 positions to be filled in HUNTSVILLE, Texas

[Department: [College of Osteopathic Medicine [Full-Time Tenure Track [Open until filled: Yes [Requisition number: 202200164F *[Usual duties: [Serves the Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, teaching in the Department of Osteopathic Principles and Practices. The position reports to the Associate Dean of Osteopathic Integration. The COM is focused on primary care and other specialties identified as a physician workforce shortage in the State of Texas, and has developed an integrated curriculum merging basic science instruction and clinical learning with an osteopathic emphasis. [The OPP faculty is responsible for designing and delivering osteopathic diagnosis, techniques, and osteopathic principles throughout the undergraduate curriculum, teaching in all four years of OMM courses, Systems courses, Clinical Medicine courses, and the preparation for Clerkship Course. Teaching modalities include large group sessions, procedural skills training, OMM skills training, simulation activities, and OSCEs. The OPP faculty will also participate in faculty and community education of the unique aspects of osteopathic medicine, including continuing medical education. In addition, the OPP faculty is expected to participate in scholarship and research and university service. The OPP Faculty will participate with the SHSU faculty practice, seeing patients in the clinic three half-days per week. The person selected must be comfortable working in preclinical and clinical education, as well as evaluation of curriculum and students through various learning and assessment methods. The department is also responsible for development and aiding GME programs affiliated with the COM in achieving and maintaining osteopathic recognition through the ACGME. *[Degree Requirements: [The successful candidate will have a DO degree from an accredited College of Osteopathic Medicine with residency training in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) or Osteopathic Family Medicine with skills in OMM, and eligibility or current NMM, SPOMM, or Family Medicine and OMT board certification. Candidates must be eligible for or have a current license to practice medicine in Texas. *[Experience Requirements: [A background in medical education is desirable with experience working in a department of Osteopathic Principles / Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at a College of Osteopathic Medicine. A desire to teach at the Undergraduate and Graduate Medical Education levels are necessary. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and training. *[Other Requirements for the Position: [Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite products. Familiarity with educational technologies such as learning management systems, exam, and polling software preferred. Ability to communicate and work with other faculty, osteopathic medical students, physician preceptors, and college administration. Possession of excellent written and verbal communication skills and capacity to demonstrate personal initiative and abilities to deal with a rapidly changing environment are essential. Experience teaching in an undergraduate program preferred. Other duties as assigned. Works under minimum direction.
