Position Description:

This position will provide systems engineering, integration, and technical management support to the Technical Management Branch (EV71) in support of the Space Launch System (SLS) Program. Personnel will evaluate, select, and apply standard system engineering (SE) techniques, procedures, and criteria to this effort.

Responsibilities:

Coordinate and interface with EV, SLS Elements, Task Teams, SLS Project teams and personnel, the SLS Prime Contractors, as well as participating in reviews, meetings, Technical Interchange Meetings, technical performance meetings, teleconferences, working groups and in trade studies.

Specific support to be provided includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Support SLS Design and Analysis Cycles, Flight Readiness Analyses and Planning, work package discipline integration, and trade studies.

  • Support the definition/development/maintenance of the SLSP Vehicle Condition Imagery Reference Document.

  • Participate in and/or lead/coordinate SLS Program milestone reviews, and checkpoints as directed by SE Lead Systems Engineer (LSE).

  • Support and/or lead multiple phases (Artemis II and beyond) of SLS Program SE planning and execution of technical processes including the development and maintenance of plans such as the Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP), the SLSP Reference Configuration Document, and SLS Program Agreements Document (PAD).

  • Perform oversight/insight activities to ensure project is performing in accordance with plans and processes as well as remains in compliance with NASA and MSFC requirements and standards.

  • Lead and facilitate Task Teams, complex tasks, and trade studies, as well as independent management of subtasks with minimum government oversight.

  • Serve as the book manager and/or change package engineer for SLS Program Documentation.

  • Develop key vehicle integrated design and analysis products for key project milestones.

  • Prepare and deliver technical programmatic briefings, as requested.

Here’s what you’ll need :

Qualifications:

Degree in Aerospace, Systems, or Mechanical engineering or related field is required. Degree from an ABET-accredited university is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Masters with at least 8 years of experience, or a BS with at least 10 years of experience.

A successful candidate must have:

  • Experience with systems engineering and integration, flight evaluation planning, and the ability to apply lessons learned.

  • Experience with vehicle integration for a human rated space launch vehicles or similar vehicles.

  • Experience planning and executing vehicle design and analyses cycles.

  • Experience integrating disciplines for design, analyses, and flight operation of human rated space launch vehicles.

  • Excellent writing skills, demonstrated experience developing and delivering executive level briefings, well-honed interpersonal and negotiation skills, complex technical problem-solving skills, and customer relations skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities while breaking down complex problems or issues into manageable pieces.

  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams & Outlook) are required.

  • Must be self-motivated, effective team players familiar with working in a dynamic work environment who are willing to assume a Systems Integration role in this effort.

Desired qualifications and experience (presence of one or more of these qualifications will be used as a selection factor):

  • Knowledge of the NASA Space Launch System, its Elements, Interfaces, and Mission Configurations is highly desired.

  • Experience in project planning and management as well as leading and facilitating studies of complex aerospace problems involving evaluation of technical, cost, and schedule issues with associated risk is highly desired.

  • Experience with Space Shuttle vehicle or other similar space vehicles and programs is highly desired.

Essential Functions

Work Environment:

General office environment. Requires ability to interact effectively with co-workers, managers, and clients. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, and accurate communications, both verbally and in writing (50%). Travel may be necessary, but infrequent (<10%).

Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at MSFC facilities to discuss technical issues (25%). Requires sitting at a desk to write reports and perform engineering task activities (25%). Work will be performed on-site at NASA/Marshall Space Flight Center (75%). Use of stairs or elevators can gain access to buildings.

Equipment and Machines:

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, telephone, task related software, and other general office equipment.

Attendance:

Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions:

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
