Sierra Nevada Corporation Systems Engineer III - Network Architect in Huntsville, Alabama

Join our team! As a Systems Engineer, you will be using your skills and expertise to research, architect, model, simulate, test, certify and improve cutting edge products and services. You'll be developing complex system architectures within contextual modeling platforms, ushering them from operational concept through preliminary and detailed design, simulation, and test using progressive tools. As a cross-functional engineer, you are in charge of system-level ownership of new products and processes through the product lifecycle.

SNC is looking for an experienced Network Engineer supporting satellite and terrestrial systems integrations. In this role you will be supporting key mission partners driving mission outcomes by leveraging your expertise in satellite communications, terrestrial networking, and cloud integration. You will provide systems engineering, develop system-level communications architectures, IP-specific communications plan, and conduct special analysis, modeling, and simulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Design network architectures for space and ground systems based on interoperability standards to implement a variety of data routing and optimization requirements

  • Provide technical knowledge and leadership in support of Space Development Agency missions

  • Provide advanced SATCOM support in operations, communications and coalition planning, crypto, testing, and special analysis

  • Conduct troubleshooting with system users and coordinate during system anomalies

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and development to team members. • Design secure wide area connectivity that supports performance, quality of service, security, and mission requirements

  • Integrate capacity planning and scaling of network and security stack environment into the overall design of solutions

  • Work with information assurance teams to ensure compliance to DoD standards to assist with providing accreditation artifacts

Must-haves:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math with 10-12 years’ experience or Master’s degree with 8-10 years’ experience

  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and design principles as they relate to the aerospace and defense sector

  • Practical knowledge of systems engineering principles and practices

  • Network certification which shall meet or exceed a CCNA (comparable vendor certification accepted upon review.)

  • Active DoD IAT Level II certification or equivalent prior to start

  • Experience documenting logical or physical design using drawing tools (e.g. Visio, Powerpoint, MagicDraw) to depict systems, subsystems, interfaces, components, and communications of applications and infrastructure

  • RF experience with S-Band and KA Band communications

  • Applied experience in Protected Military SATCOM systems

  • Experience working on multi-disciplinary design and development teams.

  • The ability to work with minimal oversight

  • Knowledge of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design, systems integration, technical risk identification and management strategies, and Verification and Validation (V&V) principle

Preferred:

  • Experience with requirements management and system modelling tools, such as DOORS, Rhapsody, NoMagic, MATLAB

  • Practical knowledge of industry standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to requirements management, Model Based System Engineering (MBSE)

  • Experience or certification in INCOSE standards

  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry

  • Ability to administer baseline definition and maturation in a complex development setting, including the use of high impact trade studies and other measures

  • Exposure to establishing and tracking key Technical Performance Measurements (TPM)

  • Experience in Aerospace and Defense development environments

  • Certified Cisco Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent

  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following network management tools such as PaloAlto Panorama, SolarWinds, Cisco Prime, Cisco DNA or Junos Space

  • Expert knowledge of DoD security requirements for network infrastructure

  • Demonstrate experience in system hardening of network infrastructure to include DoD STIG implementation

  • Experience with early phases of the program development lifecycle, including architecture definition, requirements development and preliminary design
