Amentum Space Exploration Division Senior Navigation Engineer #ADV000A5P Huntsville, Alabama
The Senior Navigation Engineer will help develop and verify the GPS/INS navigation system for NASAs Space Launch System (SLS). This role will develop and maintain a detailed understanding of the navigation sensors and their interactions and interfaces to flight computers and software. Additional work may include analyzing the avionics of the Exploration Upper Stage (EUS). This role will create software models that integrate with existing 6-DOF simulations and navigation software. This role will assess and analyze test data to characterize systems and to identify and isolate unexpected results and discrepancies between models and observed behaviors. Successful candidates are self-motivated and work well with others. As part of the SLS Navigation team, you will collaborate with and help lead other members of the team. This includes opportunities for mentoring others and leading analyses and studies.
Job Requirements: A degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is required. A degree from an ABET-accredited university is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a PhD, an MS with at least 15 years of experience, or a BS with at least 20 years of experience. Experience: Knowledge of inertial navigation and GPS-aided navigation systems, preferably for aerospace applications Experience with models of inertial sensors, inertial navigation systems, and GPS receivers, including the effects of stochastic errors and latency. Knowledge of how various error sources effect the integrated navigation solution. Experience with navigation error analysis, including sensitivity analysis, covariance analysis. Ability to assess data to characterize system performance and identify anomalous behaviors in navigation systems.
