Navistar, Inc. Senior Lead Manufacturing Engineer in Huntsville, Alabama

Position Overview

Navistar is seeking a Senior Lead Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at our Powertrain Manufacturing Facility in Huntsville, AL!

The Senior Lead Manufacturing Engineer will report to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, and support the production of Navistar's recently launched T14 transmission. In this position, you will work directly with R&D, Quality, and production on improving current manufacturing processes and ensure the systems are building the product to the correct specifications.

The Huntsville facility runs a 4x10 production schedule (Mon-Thurs, 6:30AM - 5:00PM).

This role will support production and may need to cover production recovery times including Fridays and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements and maintains methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture of components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies

  • Performs research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment

  • Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations

  • Estimates manufacturing cost, determines time standards, and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines

  • Read and interpret blueprints

  • Provide Technical Expertise to quality department

  • React to machinery uptime issues and drive towards permanent, cost effective and long term solutions

  • Standardizes manufacturing processes by benchmarking other facilities’ manufacturing processes

  • Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results

  • Assist in the accomplishment of plant quality objectives

  • Follow up on the implementation of engineering changes and variations from design specifications as well as new program developments

  • Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement and improved efficiency

  • Initiates, develops and pursues capital appropriation projects

  • Represents manufacturing on cross-functional teams

  • May instruct, coach, or provide informal guidance to other professionals or colleagues with less experience

  • May require travel to benchmark other manufacturing locations or to run-off new equipment. (5%-10%)

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • At least 8 years of product manufacturing experience

  • At least 1 year lead experience

OR

  • Master’s degree

  • At least 6 years of product manufacturing experience

  • At least 1 year lead experience

OR

  • At least 10 years of product manufacturing experience

  • At least 1 year lead experience

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Desired Skills

  • Proficient with electric torque controlled fastening tools

  • Proficient with press equipment and processes

  • Proficient with vision system implementation and support

  • Proficient with launching new products

  • Competence with launching new products in an existing production line

  • Competence with maintaining and follow up on project budgets

  • Competence with developing and maintaining project timelines

  • Competence with Microsoft Office products

  • Experience with Robotic Assembly systems

  • Experience with CAD and 3D modeling tools preferred Siemens NX

  • Experience with AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles)

  • Experience with presenting resolutions to quality issues

  • Experience with resolving safety and ergonomic issues in a manufacturing environment

  • Ability, and willingness to lead and guide other professionals or colleagues

  • Ability, and willingness to learn from others
