Job Summary

Under moderate supervision, lays out metal stock or workpieces such as plates, angles, etc. to indicate location, dimension and tolerance necessary for further processing such as shearing, burning and/or punching. Analyzes specifications and computes dimensions according to knowledge of product, subsequent processing, shop mathematics and layout procedures.

Studies drawings, sketches or other specifications and plans layouts to insure production of product to Engineering specifications -- with minimal assistance.

Examines workpieces and verifies requirements such as dimensions and squareness using rule, square and straight edge. Verifies first piece to control scrap.

Lifts and positions workpiece in machine manually or with a crane/hoist.

Verifies position with measuring instruments, determines reference points and computes layout dimension. Verifies first piece processing prior to volume production.

Sets up and operates assigned simple machine(s) such as shears, saws, press brakes, punch presses and roll formers to cut and shape components to specified dimension.

May operate forklift and overhead crane/hoists and air tools.

Makes most setups on assigned machines without assistance.

Working knowledge and ability to operate the laser.

Completes all documentation/paperwork accurately. Proper movement and storage of material or product. Follows inventory control processes and procedures.

Knowledge & Skills

High school diploma or GED certificate preferred.

Minimum one year previous fabrication experience required

Must be physically capable of lifting 51 lbs., on a regular basis for 8-10 hours.

Ability to read blueprints, sketches and drawings.

Ability to plan and organize work from blueprints and Bill of Materials.

Shop math skills required. Ability to read tape measure, square and use/read dial calipers.

Good mechanical aptitude.

Able to understand verbal and written instructions. Reading and comprehension of work related materials
