Oversight of testing for planned materials used in space nuclear reactors for long duration deep space mission. Oversight for tests and processing post test data and analyses. Generate and/or review peer reviewed white papers on test results for AIAA and/or JANNAF Conferences. Perform systems level analysis needed to validate test readiness. Review analysis and test results associated with materials development used in nuclear propulsion designs. Maintain training on-site and off-site and keep up to date within contract compliance requirements. This job involves longer hours during testing. Some travel may be required.
Job Requirements: A degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Nuclear engineering or related engineering field is required. A degree from an ABET-accredited university is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D., with minimum of 24 years of experience, an MS with at least 28 years of experience, or BS with at least 30 years of experience. Skills and experience should demonstrate: Programmatic level experience with nuclear space propulsion DDTandE. Experience with Nuclear Thermal Propulsion planning and development for deep space missions. Solid experience with US National Nuclear Test facilities. Current and past involvement with Tennessee Valley Corridor (tennvalleycorridor.org) for uniting industry with government agencies. High level Principal Investigator level experience with large DDTandE programs. Solid understanding of cryogenic storage of propellants. Solid understanding of nuclear reactor operation in space environments. Considerable publication authorships of peer reviewed technical papers specific to in-space propulsion. Solid AIAA experience with hands on contributions towards in-space propulsion technology innovation. Ability to begin on-site work at MSFC in the month of January 2025.
