JOB OVERVIEW

MartinFed has an opening for a Payload Operations Flight Controller to join our team of talented and diverse individuals. This role will directly support the International Space Station and will be based at Marshall Space Flight Center.

The POFC supports the execution of International Space Station (ISS) payloads and science experiments, validates procedures for on-board crew and ground activities, and participates in mission, spacecraft, on-board system requirements definition and design activities to ensure effective and safe operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform engineering analysis to develop and validate procedures for on-board crew and ground activities to produce appropriate procedures, cue cards, checklists, and handbooks, to identify potential in-flight malfunctions and contingencies.
  • Conduct post-flight mission evaluations to ensure that mission objectives were met, problem areas identified, and corrective actions taken.
  • Plan, develop, integrate, and direct real-time operations for human space flight and robotic space vehicles.
  • Develop operational concepts, plans, procedures, and requirements for spacecraft hardware and software systems for real-time flight control of human space flight, robotic space vehicles, payloads and space-based science instruments.
  • Participate in mission, spacecraft, on-board system requirements definition and design activities necessary to ensure compatibility between mission objectives, vehicle capabilities, crew safety, and mission success.
  • Perform multiple functions which may include planning, design, test and evaluation, cost analyses, program and project management, quality management for projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or relevant field AND at least (5) years of relevant experience.
  • US Citizen.
  • Roles will include operations product development, operations process implementation, and support to operations execution.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written), technical and administrative skills are mandatory. Candidates must be able to apply technical knowledge and operations concepts to exercise effective decision making in a real-time and fast paced operational environment.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with NASA manned space missions or satellite operations environments.
  • Understanding of engineering, operations integration, and systems analysis.
  • Knowledge of SharePoint is a plus.
  • Ability to work with minimal guidance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  • Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, prolonged sitting while using the computer and the telephone and attending meetings, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness.
  • Some shift work (nights, weekends, and holidays) may be required.
  • Candidate must be able to support infrequent travel.
  • Ability to use a computer to input and retrieve information and data.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts.
  • Ability to travel as required by the Company.
