JOB OVERVIEW

This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations at MartinFed Headquarters in Huntsville, AL. The candidate must be a driven team player with the ability to lead an accounting team, while working as the most senior accountant within MartinFed. This position will require a strong working relationship and collaboration with contracts, HR, program controls, and upper management. This position requires a candidate who continuously seeks ways to learn and challenge themselves in a small business while juggling multiple tasks and priorities.

Communication and attention to detail is essential.

The candidate must have a full understanding of GAAP and governmental accounting standards. The candidate must have a thorough knowledge of: WAWF and other invoicing methods, accounts receivable, revenue recognition, accounts payable, debt payments, cash management, labor processing, and all aspects of day-to-day accounting functions for a small government contracting business. Lastly, this position requires interaction with DCAA/DCMA and the candidate must have a an understand Incurred Cost Submissions and other Cost Accounting reporting required as part of a small government contracting businesses.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Have experience leading a team of accounting, AP, AR, payroll, and other accounting positions.
  • Communicate well with multiple areas within a fast-growing company.
  • Be able to proactively solve problems, delegate, collaborate and work well under pressure.
  • Maintain the General Ledger and chart of accounts to ensure control over financial transactions and reporting.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  • Review contractual requirements to confirm that invoicing is accurate.
  • Process monthly invoices and distribute as required, including, using Wide Area Workflow (WAWF).
  • Effectively manage Accounts Receivable to assure timely payment of invoices and communicate issues to President and CEO.
  • Research any unbilled issues to optimize invoicing for the monthly invoicing cycle.
  • Release and process payments for Accounts Payable.
  • Process labor and reconcile to payroll, assuring proper importing into the General Ledger and to job cost.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations.
  • Prepare and publish timely financial data and create financial statements on a monthly basis for review with CEO and CGO.
  • Provide support for annual and periodic audits, including research, schedules and reconciliations.
  • Provide support for annual tax preparation, including research, schedules and reconciliations.
  • Support contract closeout process generating financial reports and final invoices when requested.
  • Support special projects as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of accounting and government contractor experience.
  • Hands-on expertise with project reporting on differe t contract types (Cost Plus, Fixed Price, Time and Material), knowledge of timekeeping and expense reporting, accounting and financial analysis. Knowledge of and experience working with project management and contracts personnel.
  • Proficient in use of PC and software applications including Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and PC based automated financial software, and electronic timekeeping and project planning software.
  • Understanding of government contracting (DCAA, FAR) is required.
  • Must possess strong analytical, communication and organization skills.
  • Detail oriented and professional in their dealings with external and internal customers.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and set priorities in a fast-growing company.

DESIRED QUALIFCATIONS

  • JAMIS Prime ERP accounting system experienced highly preferred.
  • CPA or Master of Accounting is desired.
  • Experience with public accounting is also desired.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  • General office environment.
  • The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Some walking, standing, bending, reaching, and carrying of light items such as papers and books.
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, telephone, and other office equipment.
