The Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) Mission Systems & Autonomy (MS&A) software capability is seeking a Lead Flig ht and Payload Software Engineer in Huntington Beach, California.

The chosen candidate will collaborate with the BR&T Payload Products & Technologies (PP&T) product team, focusing on the concept, requirements, architecture, design, and development of an advanced space-based imaging sensor payloads. The role will involve creating software products for image sensor payloads and space vehicle flight control.

The selected candidate will work with the PP&T product team to deliver comprehensive solutions, including systems engineering, optics design, algorithms, software development, firmware development, and electronics. They will also collaborate with the software product line owner, program managers, and development leads to create and customize common software products for use on a portfolio of customer-funded programs.

The successful candidate will work across programs to ensure software products are developed for commonality and tailored to meet mission needs. The candidate will work with development leads for satellite flight and payload software, firmware, and algorithms to ensure engineering excellence and achieve program objectives.

Position Responsibilities :

  • Lead in flight and payload software requirements, architectures, designs, interfaces, technologies

  • Serves as a focal on image sensor payloads and space vehicle flight control software products

  • Serve as SME in real-time operating systems, real-time software, schedulers

  • Expert in software fault management and resiliency for space environments

  • Expert in software assurance requirements and methods

  • Expert in VxWorks OS, Xilinx Versal

  • Expert on analysis tools for recovery of software engineering, architecture, and design from developed code

  • Drive flight and payload software product line architecture and strategic reuse across all programs

  • Drive software execution to deliver products on-cost and on-schedule to programs

  • Responsible for satellite and payload software safety, assurance, quality, and engineering excellence

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change.

This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience) :

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 10+ years of experience with software development in a collaborative team environment using agile principles and a structured development process, including code reviews and DevOps processes/tools

  • 10+ years of experience developing and debugging software using high-level programming languages (C and C++)

  • 10+ years of experience with satellite or space-based payloads

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience) :

  • Active Top Secret/SCI Clearance

  • Experience working with real-time operating systems (RTOS).

  • Experience automating software builds, unit tests, integration tests, deployment, and installations using a DevOps tool chain using Artifactory and/or GitLab.

  • Experience with new product development with small, agile teams on fast-paced, dynamic, customer-funded programs

  • Experience with fault tolerant architectures and designs

Typical Education/Experience :

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry (e.g., Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g., PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range: $161,500 – $218,500
