JMT’s Facilities-MEP Practice provides support across JMT’s national footprint with staff in 6 offices. JMT offers a broad team of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design professions with experience in facility design, construction, and commissioning to support team members throughout the organization, consistently partnering between offices to accomplish a wide-ranging variety of projects.

JMT is seeking a Design Engineer specializing in HVAC, Building Automation Systems, and Plumbing/Fire Protection to be a part of our growing Facilities Engineering practice in the Hunt Valley, MD office. The Design Engineer will be provided the opportunity to be directly involved from the initial conceptual mechanical design to completion for large and small facilities type projects across a wide range of industries including transportation, education, aviation and energy.

Compensation range is $75,000 to $95,000 annually commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Coordinate projects with Local, City, State, and County codes and officials

  • Work with a staff of technically qualified designers and engineers

  • Resolve a variety of complex issues, (i.e., challenging design requirements, requirements for unconventional materials, difficult coordination requirements, etc.) and serve as a liaison between clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design teams

  • Perform engineering calculations, review project contract documents, energy simulation, ventilation and heat load calculations, code reviews, field survey activities, construction administration and commissioning

Required Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required

  • Desire to participate and excel with a broad range of project types, roles, customers, and tasks

  • Ability to successfully function in a fast paced cooperative team environment across multiple offices

  • Preferred working knowledge of or ability to use Auto CADD, Microstation, IES VE building load simulation program, and REVIT.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required

  • EIT preferred and/or pursuits to obtain professional engineering licensure

  • Commissioning certification and experience is a plus

  • 1-4 years previous related working experience is required, which may include work done concurrent to completion of engineering degree program including engineering and/or construction experience

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 85% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
