Job Summary
The Vice President of External Affairs is part of the Texas Region's senior leadership team, and works closely with key local, legislative and regulatory stakeholders to provide advocacy and messaging strategy in Texas. This role is also responsible for directing local external affairs activities, which includes government affairs, community impact, media, and public relations.
The VP of External Affairs serves as both a strategist and business partner across the entire Texas Region and influences the broader division and company. This leader will play a highly significant role as a growth partner in expanding our network, increasing brand sentiment, and driving brand awareness.
Job Description
Core Qualifications:
15+ years of government affairs and senior media/public relations experience with global, highly competitive companies.
Preferred working experience with city and county administrative processes and procedures.
Extensive experience in local and state political environments and media markets; established relationships with political, community and media leaders in key Comcast markets preferred.
Demonstrated experience building and leading a high-performing government affairs, external affairs, and communications team responsible for media relations, government relations, external partnerships, and community impact.
Strong knowledge of business, and ability to build and develop strong partnerships with each internal stakeholder by understanding both their organizations and how each partnership can be mutually supportive.
Expertise in understanding the evolving technology landscape (web, mobile, social) and effectively articulating a vision of what to expect on the horizon and its approaching impact.
Ability to apply performance management rigor via hiring, mentoring, coaching and developing direct reports and other high-potential managers to be the best that they can be, while ensuring they are in the right roles.
Proficiency in creating cohesive messages for customers, employees, and key stakeholders.
Demonstrated understanding of customer needs and sentiment to leverage insights into messages that “delight” our customers.
Works effectively cross-functionally in a matrixed organization.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience in public relations or crisis management preferred.
Ability to establish issue advocacy and positioning strategies for effective outreach and partnership with internal and external stakeholders to drive business priorities.
Able to ensure via collaboration that all investments and activities within or adjacent to government relations, external communications, and community impact are aligned and targeted to maximize resources, and that the company “speaks with one voice” on key issues and initiatives.
