Position Overview:

The Junior Charterer/Freight Trader plays an integral role within the freight trading & chartering team for Aramco Trading Americas. Based in Houston, this role is a critical component of the broader Aramco Trading Organization, which continues to build an integrated trading business across key global hubs. This position will support the commercial team in monetizing/optimizing our portfolio of shipping assets, managing our physical and financial exposures, and evaluating market trends. The role also includes supporting the freight operations team as the physical shipping book expands. Strong commercial aptitude and a fundamental understanding of charter party exposure management are essential. Exposure to FFA, EUA, and bunker hedging strategies is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the freight trading team in efficiently managing FFAs, EUAs, & Bunker swaps, and in developing and executing hedging strategies.

  • Collaborate with freight desks to optimize vessels for the highest earnings and minimize profit leakage on freight contracts.

  • Commercially manage the STS program with internal and external stakeholders, maximizing vessel optimization while maintaining contractual obligations. Aggregate, coordinate, and manage the internal STS schedule across desks. Nominate STS requirements with external providers and work with the internal freight trading team to optimize internal assets where applicable.

  • Partner with the front office freight trading team to ensure efficient trading of freight assets with internal and external counterparties.

  • Challenge external counterparties to ensure Aramco receives maximum benefit from its contractual obligations.

  • Adapt to the 24/7/365 requirements of this role, providing back-up support to the freight trading team as needed.

Experience and Qualifications Required:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited University or a Maritime Academy.

  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar role, with some exposure to chartering or shipping.

  • Alternatively, 5-7 years of commercial freight experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree.

  • Knowledge of various charter party forms and an understanding of exposure liabilities inherent in Charter Parties.

  • Understanding of voyage economics and principles, including demurrage, deviation, interim port, heating, port costs, bunker management, etc.

  • Familiarity with the freight FFA market, EAU market, and bunker swaps market.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and modeling.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous commercial shipping experience within a trading or shipping company supporting the front office team.

  • Graduate degree from a Maritime University or an MBA from an accredited University.

  • Proficiency in IMOS vessel management software.
