WM Sustainability Analyst, Golf (Remote US) in Houston, Texas

I. Job Summary

Environmentally motivated individual to support comprehensive sport sustainability projects and perform environmental assessments with a focus on GHG emissions accounting and management. Projects involve organizational evaluations, program implementation, GHG emissions calculations, supply chain embedded carbon analyses, material management programs, social sustainability programs, and energy and water efficient resource utilization at customer locations, among other topics. This role will help conduct assessments, generate reports indicating overall sustainability baseline, create operations and management plans, and execute programs remotely and at golf customer sites. Has the ability to analyze impacts and recommend best practices. Maintains pre-established standards for safety and environmental issues. Up to 35% travel may be required. This position is a remote, work from home position.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Support sustainability evaluations and solutions with a focus on comprehensive GHG emissions accounting, on-course program implementation, and impact reduction strategies.

  • Support comprehensive golf tournament and organizational sustainability assessments and program implementation. Support preparation of final reports, including environmental, social, and economic analysis.

  • Manage data collection, organization, and input processes for environmental impact data from golf tournaments and other live events using a digital impact management tool.

  • Research and implement GHG emissions reduction strategies.

  • Support project managers with on-site program implementation for up to two weeks at a time at live events and golf tournaments.

  • Integrate social sustainability priorities into GHG emissions management strategies.

  • Promote culture of safety by ensuring site personnel are properly trained to perform assigned duties and comply with safety, environmental, federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Self-educate on current sustainability topics, issues, and trends.

  • Responsible for organizing and interpreting data.

III. Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This job will not require any supervision of other WM employees or third-party workers.

IV. Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job. Must live and work in the US.

A. Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (accredited) in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Sustainability, or Business or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four (4) years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience: One (1) year of relevant work experience in project/business management. Sustainability experience is required (in addition to education requirement).

B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

  • None required.

C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

  • Experience with conducting GHG emissions inventories, executing mitigation initiatives, organizational advisory services, and materials management strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of sustainability trends

  • Experience working in sports venues and event operations and strong knowledge and understanding of the professional golf industry, including tournaments, rules, and trends strongly preferred.

  • Experience with implementing GHG emissions reduction initiatives and researching mitigation technology preferred

  • Computer and tech savvy – must be adaptable to new programs and systems

  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and Canva strongly preferred

  • Comfortable with project travel up to two weeks at a time

  • Self-motivated and directed with a keen sense of urgency to deliver results while working remotely or at a customer site

  • Experience with public speaking, presentations to large groups, or training large groups

  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects simultaneously

  • Ability to work long days and over weekends when required by events

  • Adept at decision-making

  • Interest in the sports and entertainment industry

  • Desire to learn new skillsets

  • Strong data management skills

  • Ability to travel up to 35% operating sites on a frequent and regular basis

  • Ability to work extended hours outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc) most of the work day;

  • Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements occasionally;

  • Normal setting for this job is and office setting with site visits.

The expected salary range for this position is $55,500 - $79,810. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
