MD Anderson Gift Shops use their understanding of the unique needs of customers within a comprehensive cancer center environment to deliver quality customer service. Staff professionalism, combined with merchandising knowledge, allows our retail operation to keep in step with the fast-paced apparel, gifts, and accessories market. The MD Anderson Gift Shops, however, are more than a retail environment - they are an extension of MD Anderson's commitment to our patients and caregivers. Each day, Supervisors, Gift Shop [Supervisors] lead our professional retail staff in providing exceptional service, demonstrating their commitment to inclusivity and collegiality, practicing active listening and respectful communication, as well as providing customized solutions to patient and caregiver requests and inquiries.

The ideal candidate will have retail experience including experience as a Supervisor in a retail environment. The hours for this position will be Monday - Friday 7:45am - 4:45pm

The Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the shop, planning and delegating the daily tasks of the gift shop staff; keeping the shop and merchandise in an attractive, clean, orderly fashion; guaranteeing an exceptional customer service experience; overseeing the data entry of shop orders; and ensuring financial transactions are handled according to gift shop policies and procedures. The Supervisor, Gift Shop, develops store strategies to improve the customer experience, expand store traffic and optimize profitability. Responsible for training, motivating, mentoring, and providing feedback to store staff, the Supervisor is expected to serve as both a mentor and coach to those they supervise. The Supervisor sets the tone of the store and is expected to achieve exemplary customer satisfaction through excellent service.

The Supervisor identifies training opportunities, and delegates responsibilities with a positive, professional approach. The Supervisor participates in weekly Supervisor Huddle meetings to share information and maintain operational consistency across the four shops.

The Supervisor meets monthly with the Director, Merchandising and Operations, to review and discuss operational needs, staffing challenges, and emerging. Reports to the Manager, Gift Shop. MD Anderson Gift Shops offer a wide variety of merchandise. The merchandise in each shop is especially selected to meet the shopping needs of the patients, caregivers, and staff that frequent that location. Supervisors take the lead in recommending new product lines and passing along customer requests to the Manager, Gift Shop. The Supervisor must have a detailed understanding of customers' needs within our healthcare environment and of our internal stakeholders. Because merchandise selection differs from location to location, Supervisors are expected to be subject matter experts on the customer base that frequent their store and to go above-and-beyond to make sure that customer needs are met.

Education

Required : High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience

Required : Three years of retail, inventory control or administrative experience to include one year in a project coordination/lead/supervisory capacity.

Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.

Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
