MD Anderson Cancer Center Supervisor Electronic Technician in Houston, Texas

The mission of The University of Texas M. D. The primary purpose of the Electronic Technician Supervisor is to plan, organize, supervise, coordinate and report on the work of individual Electronic Technicians and Technical Services Teams. The Electronic Technician Supervisor manages the staff and other resources to achieve the effective and efficient installation, preventive maintenance and repair of burglar/panic alarm systems, closed circuit television systems, card access systems and other selected fundamental electronic systems.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Planning and Organization Plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises the work of Electronic Technicians in the maintenance, operation and repair of card access systems, panic/burglar alarm systems and closed circuit television systems. Responsible for the safe shop operations of Electronic Technicians. Plans, schedules and estimates time and materials necessary for maintenance jobs. Orders materials and supplies.

Access Control and Documentation Maintains accurate file system documenting activities of the Technical Services component of the University Police Department. Conceptually designs and outlines alarm systems, card access systems and closed circuit television systems to include technical specifications and specific costing data of system components. Provide technical oversight and quality control for vendor designed and installed card access systems, closed circuit television systems and alarm systems. Maintain accurate file system of spare parts including location of parts used for installation, maintenance removal purposes. Maintain accurate listing of security components assigned to Police Department inventory. Trains, coaches and monitors direct reports.

Inventory Diagnose inoperable alarm systems, card access systems and closed circuit television systems, plan repair strategy and effected repairs. Install wire or wireless alarm systems and individual components. Install modern card access systems to include door contacts, magnetic locks, rex devices (motion or switch), monitoring modules, card sensors, system configuration wiring, connectors, communication devices, ACU programming, UPS and batteries and remote door unlock devices. Install state-of-the-art closed circuit television systems, including all system components. Diagnose, plan and effect repairs to vehicle sirens, public address systems, overhead lights and control units and all related cables and wires.

Other Duties Assigned Other duties to include, but not limited to, emergency recall and/or may be required to remain onsite or work extended hours during man-made or natural disasters and unusual occurrences on campus. Local or long distance travel may be required for training or other business purposes occasionally.

Education Required: High school graduate or equivalent, supplemented by technical training in electronics.

Experience Required Five years of experience in the skilled construction and maintenance of electronic equipment to include one year of supervisory experience.

Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience. Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
