DISH Network Staff RF Engineer in HOUSTON, Texas

Department Summary

Surpassing network limitations of the past, our Wireless Development organization is building the country’s first cloud-native, standalone 5G wireless network. This is the foundation of a connected world flexible enough to satisfy all the social, economic and transformative needs of today and the future.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform RF design activities for the standalone 5G broadband network, including propagation modeling, prediction, and macro cell deployment optimization.

  • Determine equipment and power configurations and collaborate with eNB/RAN and UE teams on RF solutions and link budget adjustments.

  • Conduct site candidate evaluation, selection, and site walks; coordinate cell site call testing, optimization, and troubleshooting.

  • Work with RF Management to establish design criteria, link budget, traffic analysis, and update performance parameters for ongoing network improvements.

  • Develop innovative solutions to complex RF engineering issues, manage projects, and lead large-scale team efforts involving multiple markets or regions.

  • Engage with RAN vendors and national RF teams to roll out new tools, open RAN standards, and initiate new parameter trials and first field applications (FFAs).

Skills, Experience and Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • BSEE/BSCS degree and/or at least 8 years of relevant LTE/NR RF Design working experience, and 10+ years overall wireless experience in Design/Optimization or Operations roles including RF support of Site Acquisition and site Construction teams. Related Degree and Experience will be taken into consideration in lieu of BSEE/BSCS

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Expertise in 4G/5G and NR technologies, including practical experience and theoretical knowledge.

  • Proficient in macro and small cell RF designs, including development, operations, and maintenance of RF link budgets for 3GPP technologies.

  • Skilled in using and calibrating LTE design and optimization tools, with experience in data processing and model calibrations using tools like Planet or Atoll.

  • Mastery in drive test data post-processing, frequency planning, interference analysis, and site database maintenance with tools like Windcatcher, Actix, or Accuver.

  • Expert knowledge in Cloud Native 5G ORAN RF optimization, with experience contributing to 3GPP standards and interpreting telecommunications regulations.

  • Advanced understanding of technical standards (3GPP 5G, FCC, GSMA eSIM, 5GAA) and 3GPP RF and L2/L3 features up to Release 16.

Salary Ranges

Compensation: $100,100.00/Year - $157,300.00/Year

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location. Candidates need to successfully complete a pre-employment screen, which may include a drug test and DMV check.
