Leidos Space Station IT Network Flight Controller in Houston, Texas

Description

Leidos is looking for a qualified candidate to join our Integrated Mission Operations Contract III (IMOC III) team of engineers and Information Technology (IT) professions in our Houston, Texas office at Johnson Space Center (JSC). This position is responsible for the system administration of laptops and IT networks onboard the International Space Station (ISS).

The selected candidate will serve as a PLUTO and OCA Flight Controller for the International Space Station. These duties will require the successful completion of a training and skill certification process. The candidate will progressively train and become certified for a position in the NASA Mission Control Center (MCC). OCA is responsible for the transfer of data (procedural, imagery, experimental) between the MCC and the operational Local Area Network (LAN) onboard the ISS to support crew, ground, and payload operations.

As a trained PLUTO flight controller, the candidate will conduct remote system administration functions onboard the ISS to manage network infrastructure equipment, Windows / Linux servers, and clients (laptops and tablets). Related flight controller duties include writing ground and on-orbit procedures, training materials, and other documentation. Additional duties include providing operational support for the development, implementation, modification, testing, validation, and troubleshooting of spacecraft network and computer hardware, software, and subsystems while ensuring the safety of both the onboard crew and vehicles. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for the application Information Technology (IT) to spaceflight and serve as a strong advocate for the astronaut user.

US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency and the ability to successfully obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance are required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or equivalent, and 5+ years of related experience

  • Practical experience in performing computer and network system administration (both Windows and Linux)

  • Demonstrated understanding of personal computers, network routing / infrastructure concepts, and client / server architecture

  • Practical experience in designing, operating, and maintaining of Active Directory, Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) and QEMU virtualization

  • Practical experience in data storage systems and concepts such as mdadm, iSCSI, NFS, CIFS, and network attached storage (NAS) systems

  • Experience designing and performing testing of software applications and systems

  • Experience in developing requirements

  • Knowledge of basic scripting

  • Experience developing and presenting training materials (presentations, classes, work instructions) to teach / convey technical concepts and skills

  • Demonstrated ability to progress through a flight controller certification.

  • Adept at applying technical knowledge and operational concepts to make effective decisions in a real-time and fast-paced operational environment

  • Keen attention to detail and the ability to successfully work / negotiate on a daily basis with multiple customers across NASA, hardware providers, and NASA’s International and Commercial Partners

  • This position requires strict adherence to deadlines, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • The ability to work non-standard work shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays, as well as the ability to potentially travel domestically and internationally on occasion is required

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  • Ability and willingness to grow into a front room flight controller by demonstrating the abilities to collaborate with and lead other teams to determine technical / process solutions and negotiate win-win solutions.

  • Successful candidates are required to pass an Air Force Class III physical examination.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $85,150.00 - $153,925.00
