MD Anderson Cancer Center Simulation Technician in Houston, Texas

The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Simulation Technician in individually and across team environments and responsible for direct support in planning, management, and operations of education and simulation events across the institute. Schedules, plans, coordinates, and executes interventions to meet designer, educator and learner needs including logistics, technological, environmental, and any other operational requirements. Proactively works to resolve all questions, comments, issues and/or concerns to meet and exceed the needs of the educators and learners.

Collaborates with director, TIPS team members, academic and clinical faculty as the on-site front facing representative responsible for all aspects of operations environment/resources/equipment/technology. Responsible for operations workflow, direct hands-on support, and qualitative success of simulations; often multiple events per day. Maintains and troubleshoots operations of simulation environments and technologies including computer software/hardware, task trainers, mannequins, and AV systems. Sets up and works with biologic tissues and models as the education event dictates. Ensures that education spaces comply with appropriate internal and external IT/IS, health and safety regulations. Ensures all necessary documentation/forms are completed and maintained to remain in compliance with policies/procedures governing the use of spaces and resources necessary for education activities.

Key Functions

40% - Responsible for effective coordination, setup/teardown, physical operation and utilization of simulation spaces and resources across the MDACC campus and HAL's- direct hands-on involvement in education labs and simulations with medical and education technologies, animal and cadaveric models.

· Provides direct operations and technical support for medical and computer-based technologies and their components, operation of computerized simulators and manikins, digital cameras, video cameras, patient monitors, imaging devices, LCD projectors and other clinically relevant equipment.

· Prepares and conducts skills/training labs and varying levels of simulation technologies. This requires the ability to program, test, troubleshoot, assist, and operate computerized simulation resources and scenarios in collaboration with content experts and faculty.

40% - Serves as subject matter expert of simulation technologies/environments, education resources, hardware and software utilization in respect to simulation.

· Assists with needs assessments, competency assessments and gap analyses and feedback as necessary to assist and improve upon the qualitative impact of simulations.

· Maintains current knowledge of simulation equipment and operational manuals.

· Evaluates new equipment, identifies opportunities for technology improvement and integration. Makes recommendations for equipment and supply purchases based on usage and needs.

20% - Maintains routine and preventative equipment maintenance, regularly troubleshoots operations of all simulation equipment, including computer hardware, task trainers, mannequins and AV systems.

· Work collaboratively with IT/IS/vendors. Escalates issues as appropriate. Interfaces with the equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and systems problems. Maintains simulation center supplies and general facilities.

Monitors adherence to rules, regulations and procedures within areas of control. Reports operational and facility concerns to appropriate parties.

Actively communicates with leadership and provides reports as necessary and requested. Completes and maintains all data entry to keep facilities, equipment, and usage current.

Performs other related work as required or requested.

Education

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Associate's degree in biomedical technology, health science or related field, or completion of a military medical services training program.

Experience

Required: Two years of related experience. With preferred education, no experience required.

Preferred:

  • Experience with simulation technology applications/equipment (Windows and Apple OS and device management, Laerdal Manikins and LLEAP software, SimPad, B-Line, Vital Bridge, QPCR, 3D printing hardware/software, Anatomage, general audio, videography and camera operations, software, wireless and wired networking, medical device and systems integration)

  • Ability to interact and manipulate animate and inanimate human and animal specimens and/or tissues for use in simulation and education activities

  • Surgical/Clinical Technology (general knowledge of medical imaging technologies, power assisted, and hand tools utilized in surgical/clinical activities) Understanding of surgical and clinical operations, anatomy, physiology and pharmacology preferred
