Position Specific Description

Gexa Energy, LP, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, LLC, is seeking an experienced transactional attorney to assist with its retail gas business. The role will have a significant transactional component and the attorney will be responsible for reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a variety of agreements. The employee in this role will provide primary legal support for the company’s retail gas team. This is a full-time position.

The employee in this position will:

  • Review, negotiate, and draft a variety of contracts and legal documents related to natural gas including, transportation, storage, AMA, broker agreements, retail sales, and NAESBs

  • Provide legal support to a variety of other functions within the company, including advice on due diligence and integration activities for acquisitions and divestitures

  • Advise regarding appropriate legal action to be taken, and provide advice and counsel support in connection with risk management, dispute resolution, and contract management issues

  • Advise on licensing and customer protection requirements as well as other regulatory matters involving the impact of FERC or PUC/PSC regulatory rulings on gas, transportation, and storage costs and state-regulated retail rates

  • Work, in collaboration with external counsel, on litigation matters pertaining to the functional area

  • Contribute to the development and management of business processes, guidelines, and procedures relevant to the role’s functional area

  • Work to ensure budget compliance and avoid the need for outside counsel

  • Ensure disclosure of potentially material legal issues to senior leadership

  • Remain current on constant changes within legal and regulatory environment and communicate regarding potential corporate impact

Required Qualifications

• Member in Good Standing of State Bar

• High School Grad / GED

• Juris Doctorate

• Bachelor's Degree

• Experience:5+ years
