We are looking for a leader with a strong track record in the Science buildings sector to join our team in Texas to provide technical expertise, business development and client relationship management to reinforce this established business and to unlock broader opportunities.

The Science Business Leader will provide strong leadership, technical skills, and play a meaningful role in the future growth and development of this market in Texas and more widely across the Americas region. As part of the senior leadership team the individual will contribute to the overall team management in Texas.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain regular contact with existing key client/partners and proactively develop new relationships – sharing information, acquiring feedback, understanding their needs, managing expectations, and finding opportunities.

• Representing Arup at the highest levels regionally and beyond (e.g. think tanks, national policy and international conferences) promoting Arup Science expertise and ensuring we are seen as an inspiring leader, innovator and partner of choice in the science and research marketplace

• Development and implementation of a Science business strategy; ensure alignment with the overarching regional and global business strategies.

• Making tactical recommendations, decisions and systems improvements that enhance the performance of the team/group/projects.

• Design, delivery and management of multiple projects in the Science market - coordinating inputs from many different parties and working closely with key collaborators to deliver innovative and appropriate solutions which go above and beyond, within budgets and timescales.

• Predicting and planning future resources, being accountable for financial performance.

• Negotiating appropriate types of contracts and conditions of engagement for Arup services and sub-consultants which minimize risk and improve the value that the firm can deliver.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.

• 15 or more years of proven experience in the design of high-containment laboratories and be well connected in the science market-sector, especially in Texas.

• Professional Engineering license in Texas

• Networked with clients in Texas in the science marketplace

• Excellent track record in management and business development, with outstanding team leadership and relationship building skills

• Demonstrated strong commercial competence and financial skills

• Demonstrated communication, influencing and presentation skills

• Excellent planning and organization skills
