AUDUBON ENGINEERING OPERATIONS LLC Process Safety Engineer in Houston, Texas
Audubon is currently seeking a Process Safety Engineer to join our Team in our Houston, TX office. The Process Safety Engineer will manage the Design Safety Program for Major Projects and to provide consulting services in the area of Process Safety, including Technical Safety, Major Accident Hazards, and Process Safety Management (PSM/SEMS).
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identifying and planning deliverables for the Process Safety Program for selected major clients and projects.
- Managing self and contract resources, as needed, to meet schedule and budget for Design Safety deliverables for Major Projects.
- When needed, facilitating / leading Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) meetings, including HAZOP / LOPA studies and produce high-quality preparation and reporting documentation.
- Providing consulting services to clients and project teams to help them plan project Process Safety activities and deliverables to meet regulatory requirements.
- Analyzing engineering documents to identify safety hazards and mitigate them.
- Travelling and working at customers site upon their request, including field inspections as needed.
- When needed, providing PSM / RMP Compliance Auditing and Gap Analysis for Major Projects and Clients.
- Providing safety engineering input for quantified risk assessments, assessment of safety instrumented systems, alarm management, preliminary risk assessment, Facility Siting, Fire Protection Systems, etc.
- Actively participating in company and client hazard identification and observation programs, and immediately reporting any unsafe acts, conditions or incidents to your supervisor.
- Interacting and communicating effectively with team members, clients, subcontractors, vendors and other consultants.
- Ensuring the overall quality and technical accuracy associated with deliverables produced.
- Overseeing adherence to safe design practices, while identifying cost saving opportunities.
- Supporting and implementing the project Design Hazard Management Plan.
- Supporting development of the project Major Accident Hazard Register.
- Developing design performance standards for Safety / Environmental Critical Elements and developing verification plans to demonstrate conformance to those performance standards.
- Creating and updating bow tie diagrams for major accident hazards.
- Defining, checking, managing, and overseeing delivery of third-party contractors in development of hazard analyses and risk assessments for offshore facilities, including fire hazard analyses, explosion hazard analyses, CFD blast modeling, and dispersion analyses.
- Verifying and demonstrating that performance standards are met through all stages.
- Providing input to the development of design and operations cases for safety.
- Additional duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering required.
- Bachelors Degree from ABET Accredited Institution preferred.
- Working knowledge of industry codes (API, etc.), Process Safety Regulations, and PHA recording software required.
- Working knowledge of dispersion models and CFD models preferred.
- HAZOP / LOPA facilitator training required.
- Working knowledge of industry standard fire protection requirements for offshore installations preferred.
- 5-10 years technical safety experience preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others verbally and in writing, including public speaking to groups of up to 30 professionals.
- Ability to work with teams to make decisions or take actions to solve a problem or reach a goal.
- Ability to provide instruction and clarification to team members.
- Industry certification (engineering, safety, or environmental) preferred.
