PAYROLL SPECIALIST

AltairStrickland is looking for a full-time Payroll Specialist , at our Corporate Office in La Porte Texas. This position will report directly to the AltairStrickland, LLC Payroll Supervisor and will be eligible to participate in the Company’s sponsored health insurance plans (medical, dental, vision), insured life, 401 (k), and disability plans effective the first day of the month following the date of employment.

Additionally, the successful candidate receives Paid Time Off (PTO) at time of hire, as approved for utilization by their respective manager, without having to accrue time to obtain the PTO benefit. SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for overseeing, administrating, and managing payroll functions to best facilitate accuracy, timely completion and compliance with corporate payroll policies, procedures and federal/state regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Enters, processes, and reviews weekly and semi-monthly payrolls ensuring prompt, accurate, and compliant processing.

  • Reviews, Codes and Posts all employee time, including hours worked, per diem and allowances into the payroll system.

  • Ensures confidential, accurate, and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, pay rate or craft changes, pay increases, transfers and terminations.

  • Generate and analyze reports from payroll systems, ensuring timely submission to accounting and management.

  • Audits weekly and semi-monthly payroll registers to ensure changes were accurately made.

  • Ensures employment onboarding documentation is accurate, complete and retained to support payroll processes, wage compensation and deductions schedule per federal, state, local and/or company guidelines.

  • Assist with internal and external audits.

  • Receives and processes garnishments and child support deductions.

  • Supports unemployment claims or other payroll inquiries.

  • Complete, verify, and process deduction forms for payroll benefits such as 401(k), health insurance, HSA accounts, etc., and other deductions.

  • Maintain a professional relationship with employees, vendors, and internal companies acting as the authorized point of contact or subject matter expert for payroll-related matters.

  • Maintains confidentiality and share information with authorized employees who have access to privileged and confidential information.

  • Support, set priorities and resolve issues consistent with Company standards, policies, procedures, and protecting others Personal Protective Information (PPI).

  • Make well-informed decisions, prioritize work, ensure proper documentation processes, and meet payroll deadlines.

  • Performs other administrative, office duties or projects as needed.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

The position reports directly to the Payroll Supervisor and has direct reporting and accounting responsibilities to other Department Directors and executives, as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma with 4 years’ applicable experience or College degree with 2 years’ applicable experience required.

  • Professional Payroll (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred.

  • Experience with in-house full cycle payroll processing

  • Experience with eCMS, or Vista Payroll Software preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to troubleshoot payroll and general accounting issues.

  • Strong understanding of payroll laws and regulations (multi-state knowledge) at federal and state levels.

  • Knowledge of garnishment regulations and priorities.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet strict deadlines, and maintain confidentiality of payroll records.

  • High-level of independence and ability to thrive in a fast-paced payroll environment.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The job is typically performed indoors in a traditional office setting; however, traveling to on-site project locations or business meetings may occur as well as overnight stays are possible.
