MATHEMATICAL RESEARCH INC NASA Systems Software Integration Engineer in HOUSTON, Texas

MRI, a woman-owned Technologies and Engineering Services company, has an exciting opportunity for aSystems Software Integration Engineeronthe JETS II Contract at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.We are excited about what we do, and we need you on our team as we take on exciting challenges for NASA's pursuits in deep space exploration.

As aSystems Software Integration Engineeryou will:

  • Work as an individual contributor on the Gateway Ready Avionics Integration Lab (GRAIL) team to develop, debug, and maintain software and hardware for supporting the testing and verification for the Gateway program
  • Maintain, update, and troubleshoot spacecraft avionics lab hardware and software
  • Perform software and hardware testing and analyze test results to assure correctness, reliability, and superior performance to maintain high standards of software quality
  • Troubleshoot network issues, including creating plans and drawings for data collection from subsystems in various network nodes
  • Perform root-cause-analysis on hardware/software integration testing issues and developing creative solutions
  • Regularly communicate and demonstrate accomplishments to management
  • Work with customers to document discrepancy reports and change requests for risk mitigation during the Gateway/CMV integration phases
  • Develop and maintain user and administrative documentation to meet customer requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as required

Here's What You'll Need:

Requisition Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2- 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area
  • Basic understanding of hardware/software interfaces, distributed systems, and networking
  • Hands-on experience with Linux or Unix operating system environments
  • Solid scripting experience with Python, Bash, or similar tools
  • Knowledge of C/C++ coding
  • Versed in Agile methodology
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and coordination skills and strong customer service attitude
  • Local to the Clear Lake area and willing to work onsite at Johnson Space Center
  • Self-starter who can understand and absorb new concepts quickly

Requisition Preferences:

  • Basic understanding of spacecraft avionics hardware and software systems
  • Basic understanding of Systems Engineering
  • Experience with application of computer network technology
  • Experience with spacecraft avionics and circuit design or analysis
  • Familiar with Git or other similar configuration management/version control systems
  • Familiar with Time-Triggered Ethernet (TTE) (SAE AS6802) and AFDX (ARINC 664p7)
  • Familiar with network cabling standards
  • Familiar with VxWorks RTOS
  • Experience with SIL HIL/SIL type labs
  • Experience with MIL-STD-1553 buses
  • Experience with RS-422 serial data buses
  • Experience with SpaceWire Data communication
  • Experience with AiTech SP0 single-board computers

Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency may be a requirement for this position.

Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.

Professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
