Under the direction of the Laboratory Director, the Manager of Laboratory Services oversees the 24-hour operations of the laboratory to meet organizational needs and comply with federal and state requirements. Directs, plans, organizes and implements strategies, and initiatives to enhance and support the operations of the laboratory to ensure high quality, efficient, and cost-effective operations. Develops and implements policies and procedures, programs, and initiatives that support the mission, growth and success of the institution. Provides direction to department personnel to achieve operational and technical objectives including workflow design, service quality, financial performance, regulatory compliance, personnel management, patient satisfaction, and employee engagement.

Responsibilities

1.1. Monitors employee and departmental performance to ensure adherence to policies and procedures, timelines and regulatory requirements

1.2. Remains knowledgeable on new technologies, methods and approaches within the laboratory community

1.3. Stays informed on and quickly ensures compliance with changes to regulatory and state requirements.

1.4. Ensures ongoing compliance with federal and state regulations.

1.5. Responsible for development, implementation and compliance with policy and procedures.

1.6. Develops monitoring systems to improve quality; initiates corrective action plans, and monitors results.

1.7. Evaluates existing systems and processes and develops corrective action plans for service/quality trends identified

1.8. Ensures prompt and effective resolution of quality or service concerns.

1.9. Responsible for equipment oversight, maintenance, and procurement in accordance with division, system and regulatory standards.

1.10. Manages and evaluates staff activities and provides coaching, guidance, delegation opportunities, and on-the-job training and re-training as necessary to ensure operational efficiency and adherence to policies and procedures; fosters open communication by offering, encouraging, and accepting suggestions from staff regarding department operations.

1.11. Participates in the screening, interviewing and selection of qualified individuals for open positions within the department.

1.12. Ensures staffing schedules are adequate to support service needs while achieving productivity standards.

1.13. Ensures employee training documentation is completed and maintained in accordance with state and Federal regulations.

1.14. Assures the implementation of policies and procedures for the laboratory in accordance with national policies, procedures, and standards and according to state and regulatory requirements.

1.15. Represents the hospital’s best interests as a voting member for any work groups, councils or committees.

1.16. Participates in other CSH national laboratory efforts as required

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in biological or chemical sciences, as defined by CLIA.

One year of leadership experience as a supervisory level or higher at a

moderate or high complexity laboratory.

Preferred Education:

Masters Degree.

One (1) year experience as a Manager.

Required License and Certifications:

Clinical Laboratory departments (AU750000):

State license:

California: CLS:CA

Nevada: CLS:NV or GS:NV

North Dakota: MT-L:ND

Tennessee: MT-L:TN

Where state license not required:

MT or CLS or MLS certification required, ASCP or equivalent (per requirement sheet)

Pathology Laboratory department (AU 752000):

CT or HTL certification required, ASCP or equivalent

Required minimum Knowledge, Skills Abilities and Training:

Job duties require technical leadership and expertise. Some financial management experience is needed. Competent in Human Resources, Equipment Management, Quality Management, and Workflow Design. Strong knowledge in state and federal regulations is needed to ensure ongoing compliance.

Pay Range

$35.28 - $51.16 /hour
