MD Anderson Cancer Center Financial Analyst - Diagnostic Imaging Division in Houston, Texas

Function: Provides reporting and analysis of clinical, research & education operations through the extraction and management of financial data from source systems. Responsible for adherence to institutional financial controls, audit, and compliance standards as required for efficient accounting management.

Scope : Impacts financial and operational procedure and practices throughout the Division.

Ideal Candidate: Will have Master's degree (preferred), have worked in a research/academic environment, has had extensive experience interacting with Physicians and upper leadership. This role requires someone with finance / accounting / budget and procurement experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Financial Management

· Assists with annual budget activity for the division: review of prior year expenses, revenue projections, budget revisions, etc.

· Reviews monthly expenditures across all divisional cost centers

· Prepares divisional margin reports, verifies institutional data, produces divisional variance analysis and publishes chart and graph information based on data extracted from OBIEE, ESSBase, Smartsheet, etc

· Maintains divisional database for detailed transactions for all departments; updates and upgrades queries and reports as required; publishes reports from this data as required

· Participates in and retains review of procard reconciliation, ensures procard deadlines are met and expenses are reallocated appropriately with review and approval by cardholder and cardholder's supervisor

  1. Operational Reporting

· Develops and maintains database to track clinical revenue & productivity. Generates monthly reports for management use or distribution to the departments and Chairs

· Produces monthly financial reports for chairman, administrators and all faculty - to include free balance, monthly report of expenditures, expenses by PI/department center, detail salary and fringe expenses and charts this data as required

  1. Account Maintenance and Reconciliation

· Performs monthly reconciliation and reporting of all divisional funds including Sponsored and Non-sponsored funding sources

Provides monthly reports summarizing available funds to the Chairman, Department Administrator, Division of Diagnostic Imaging, and Physicians Referral Services with respect to the type of funds.

· Performs monthly reconciliation of research and donor funded salaries and supplies

· Develops and maintains procedures for the reconciliation process

· Trains and monitors Accountant I and administrative staff on specialized financial reporting and account reconciliation process and procedures

· Interacts with all levels of personnel within the division, other institutional departments, as well as outside companies to resolve problems/errors or questions regarding basic accounting reconciliation items

  1. Grants and Contracts Management

· Manages the division financial files for grant and donor funding

· Assembles comprehensive review of awards and expenses for Diagnostic Imaging

· Performs audit review of grant payment status as requested

· Grossly reconciles grant expenses for all investigators

  1. Marginal or Periodic Functions:

· Represent the division in a pro­fessional and appropriate manner within institution, as well as externally

· Assist with any divisional needs as required, to include special financial, clinical, educational, and research reports

· Oversee organization and maintenance of divisional files relating to fiscal and budgetary responsibilities and reports

SUPERVISION:

Received: Divisional Administrator, Finance Director & Senior Financial Analyst

Given: Provides supervision of Accountant I and administrative support staff for accounting and operational issues

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Must demonstrate ability to work with personal computers using specialized financial management and database software products to include MS Excel, MS Access, Essbase, Smartview or other client-server financial programs.

Must have experience in a funded research division or department

Must also be able to maintain a satisfactory work environment by organizing and redistributing files, records, etc., requiring bending, stooping, reaching, manual handling, walking, visually inspecting, extended standing, sitting and repetitive motions. May be required to lift up to 15 pounds,

Requires use of typewriter and computer via keyboard, and operating facsimile machine, calculator, printer, photocopy machine, etc. Requires the use of push-button, multiple line telephone set. Master new software by utilizing available resources (other department personnel, reference manual, taking classes, etc.)

Must be able to use all office equipment as noted above. Read and understand printed and written data in English.

The performance for all expected outcomes is measured by observation by supervisor, reports from physicians and co-workers, the accuracy and timeliness of work produced, and the demonstrated ability to effectively work under stress.

REQUIREMENTS

Education Required: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related business specialty

Education Preferred: Master's degree in Business Administration or related business specialty

Experience Required: Two years business experience to include project management, data analysis or accounting.

Experience Preferred: Four - Five years business experience to include project management, data analysis or accounting.
