Job Summary

Are you a culinary innovator with a passion for leading a dynamic kitchen team? Chartwells Higher Education is seeking an Executive Sous Chef to elevate the dining experience at the University of Houston. This is your opportunity to showcase your culinary skills in a high-volume residential dining hall while collaborating with a talented team dedicated to excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborative Leadership: Assist our Executive Chef in daily operations while supervising a dedicated team of culinary associates.

Creative Menu Development: Play a key role in planning and creating innovative menus that delight and inspire.

Mentorship & Training: Provide continuous training and development for hourly associates, fostering a culture of growth and learning.

Operational Excellence: Manage cost controls and expenditures, ensuring the kitchen runs efficiently and effectively.

Safety First: Ensure a safe and compliant work environment, following all HACCP policies and procedures.

Culinary Innovation: Roll out new culinary programs in collaboration with our marketing and culinary teams, keeping our offerings fresh and exciting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in Culinary Arts, Food Services Technology/Management/or related field; or A.O.S. Degree in Culinary Arts with additional specialized training

  • 3-5 years of relevant culinary experience

  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and oral/written communication skills

  • Knowledge of food cost and how it pertains to a kitchen, product and quality identification

  • Must be experienced with computers; to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point), Outlook, E-mail and the Internet

  • High volume, complex foodservice operations experience - highly desirable

  • Institutional and batch cooking experiences helpful
