Transportation Engineer IIPerforms complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Transportation Engineer IIIPerforms advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Transportation Engineer IVPerforms highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer IIPerforms complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.Coordinates traffic engineering studies and traffic counts.Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.Meets with law enforcement agencies and city officials to discuss traffic problems and possible solutions.Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer IIIIncludes all essential duties listed for Transportation Engineer II as well as:Performs advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.Interprets manuals and required guidelines for traffic operations.Investigates and responds to public complaints on traffic signals, signs, railroad crossings, pavement markings, traffic management systems or other traffic related items.Performs and coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications Estimates (PSE) submission, special specifications or special provisions.Provides design engineering support for districts in project development.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer IVIncludes all essential duties listed for Transportation Engineer II and III as well as:Coordinates phases of preliminary design and revisions in PSE with districts, divisions, Administration, the FHWA, contractors, fabricators, Corps of Engineers and local entities.Reviews and revises schematics, PSE, project designs, shop drawings and field changes for traffic control devices, signals, signs, markings, detours, traffic control plans, electrical distribution and roadway lighting and traffic management systems.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
