Transportation Engineer Specialist IPerforms advanced and specialized drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Transportation Engineer Specialist IIPerforms advanced and specialized drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques; trains and reviews the work of others. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer Specialist IAssists in writing general notes, specifications and provisions.Performs advanced and specialized drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features.Reviews work done by others for drafting and calculation errors.Uses additional automated design tools or specialized design procedures in areas including bridge/culvert detailing, traffic management, geometric design, illumination, signing, pavement marking, CTMS, traffic signal design, signal lighting design, retaining walls and building design. Prepares field notes.Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Transportation Engineer Specialist IIIncludes all essential duties listed above as well as:Writes general notes, specifications and provisions.Schedules, coordinates and prepares documents for public hearings, PSE, and meetings and responses to area offices, other sections, and the general public.Trains less experienced technicians.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
