DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Public Library seeks customer-service driven, creative, and energetic Administrative Supervisor who has strong leadership skills, an ability to inspire staff, and a passion for serving as a hands-on and highly engaged manager in Neighborhood Libraries. Successful candidates will communicate effectively, provide exceptional customer service, be at ease multitasking in a fast-paced public service setting and enjoy interacting with people of all ages from diverse backgrounds.
Essential job duties and responsibilities for an Administration Supervisor include:
Exceptional leadership skills and experience supervising and evaluating assigned staff.
Overseeing and coordinating team members to effectively complete tasks.
Ensure employees are prepared, motivated, productive, and challenged in their work assignments to ensure maximum performance.
Taking initiative to creatively solve problems and possessing sound decision-making skills.
Interact with customers at the Customer Service Desk and roving, assisting with information requests, technology assistance, and programming.
Responsibility for collection maintenance of the collection in all formats including use of Collection HQ.
Planning, implementing, and marketing programs and services.
Establish and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with community groups, other government agencies, community organizations, other employees, and the public.
Requires one evening a week and every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) work.
WORKING CONDITIONS
There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions. The position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Political Science, Psychology or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Three (3) years of experience in personnel, administration, accounting or a closely related field are required.
Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
None.
PREFERENCES
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
Experience in personnel management and supervision.
Ability to plan and organize work and skilled at prioritization.
Knowledge of library operations and organization, including services, activities, staffing, facilities, and equipment.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with others.
Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge of current versions of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook), Sirsi Symphony.
Ability to communicated effectively orally and in writing.
Bilingual skills (Spanish/English).
