Job Description: Accounts Payable Specialist (Quarterly, As-Needed Contract)

Position Overview:

Robert Half is seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Payable Specialist to work quarterly, on an as-needed basis for a respected oil and gas company located in downtown Houston. This flexible, part-time contract opportunity is ideal for someone balancing other commitments, such as being a student, and offers valuable experience with a well-established organization. The candidate will be engaged approximately six weeks each quarter, with work hours ranging between 20-60 hours per week, depending on workload. Overtime is also available.

This role will focus on key accounts payable functions, including vendor setup, manual invoicing, and other related tasks. The company uses Dynamics 365 AX software, and prior experience with the platform is a strong plus.

Key Responsibilities:

The Accounts Payable Specialist will play a vital role in supporting the company’s accounting team during peak periods, with responsibilities including:

• Vendor Setup: Conducting accurate and compliant setup of new vendors in Dynamics 365 AX.

• Manual Invoice Processing: Processing high volumes of manual invoices with precision and efficiency.

• Accounts Payable Functions: Handling day-to-day AP tasks such as matching, coding, reconciliation, and resolving invoice discrepancies.

• Ensuring compliance with internal controls, company policies, and procedures related to accounts payable.

• Collaborating with the larger accounting team to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.

Training and Work Schedule:

• One week of onsite training in downtown Houston will be provided to familiarize the candidate with processes, workflows, and systems, including Dynamics 365 AX.

• After training, the company will provide 2-3 weeks’ advance notice before each quarterly engagement.

Requirements

Requirements:

• 2+ years of accounts payable experience or related roles preferred, but open to candidates with relevant coursework or internship experience.

• Experience with Dynamics 365 AX software or similar accounting platforms is highly desirable.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other basic accounting tools.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

• Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

• Flexibility to work variable hours (20-60 hours per week) during each engagement period.

Schedule & Compensation:

• Duration: Six weeks per quarter, with shifts ranging between 20-60 hours/week (overtime available).

• Location: One week of onsite training in downtown Houston, with future work arrangements aligned to company needs.

• Pay Rate: Competitive hourly pay based on experience and skillset, with eligibility for overtime pay.
