City of Hot Springs, Arkansas

TITLE: Construction Technician

DEPARTMENT: Wastewater Collections

REPORTS TO: Crew Leader, Field Supervisor, Manager

PAY GRADE: 06

FSLA: Nonexempt

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

General Statement of Duties

The Construction Technician provides skilled labor and non-heavy equipment operation duties related to the

wastewater collection system

Works under general supervision of an administrative superior

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in the installation and repair of wastewater mains and services; dig and backfill ditches; shovel gravel

and dirt; repair streets where line repairs have been made; sweep up debris and repair lawns or work sites;

operate of all types of equipment including trucks, trailers, air compressors, jackhammers, pipe wrenches,

gasoline-operated ditch pumps, pipe saws, vibratory compactors and/or other equipment tools and machinery

associated with wastewater operations; adhere to all city policies; assist in other departments as needed;

work overtime as necessary; perform other related work as required. Perform On-Call duties as assigned.

Work overtime when required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Considerable knowledge of construction and maintenance of wastewater lines and services; operational

hazards and safety precautions for working in public areas; tools and piping practices; maintenance of

jackhammers, pipe wrenches, gasoline operated ditch pumps, pipe saws and vibratory compactors; street

names and locations (city and county). Skill in the use and care of hand tools, light and heavy equipment.

Ability to operate trucks, trailers and other construction equipment and machinery; understand and follow

complex verbal and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships, perform

manual labor tasks in wet locations and under varying weather conditions.

Education

High school graduation or equivalent

Preferred Experience

A minimum of two (2) years in the repair, replacement and maintenance of wastewater mains and services.

Any equivalent of education and experience

Special Requirements

A valid Arkansas Drivers License with a clean driving record. Employee will be hired commensurate with

licenses and/or experiences.

Frequently stands, walks, talks and hears; occasionally sits; uses hands to handle objects; reaches with hands

and arms; stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, climbs or balances; specific vision requirements include close,

color, distance, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus; occasionally required to lift up to

100 pounds.

The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud; exposed to outdoor weather conditions, fumes

or airborne part icles, toxic or caustic chemicals and wet, humid conditions and extreme heat (non-weather);

works in high precarious places and near moving mechanical parts; at risk for electrical shock and/or

vibration.
