Director of Behavioral Health Nursing is accountable for providing safe and reliable patient care in accordance to JSH policy and procedure, CMS standards and regulations and Joint Commission standards and regulations.

Essential Functions ?

The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing is responsible for assisting the Director of Clinical Services-Behavioral Health in promoting and maintaining quality patient care through effective leadership on his/her assigned unit(s).

The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing is responsible for oversight of RN related duties and RN staffing.

The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing is responsible for oversight of CNA/MHT related duties and CNA/MHT staffing.

The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing assists the Director of Clinical Services - Behavioral Health in fostering a service, which is consistent with the patient care beliefs and shared management philosophy of the department.

The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing assists the Director of Clinical Services - Behavioral Health in consulting with patient/families through primary nurse request, direct family request or direct assessment of patient/family response to hospitalization.

The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing assists the Director of Clinical Services - Behavioral Health in assessing patient/significant other survey responses regarding nursing care and services.

The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing assists the Director of Clinical Services-Behavioral Health in coordinating activities and schedules, disseminating information, and promoting a positive working environment for staff, physician, LIP's and ancillary departments.

The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing works closely with Director of Clinical Services- Behavioral Health to hold staff accountable for following JSMC policy/procedure, CMS standards and regulations and JC standards and regulations.

The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing will be responsible for completing all patient chart checks as required CMS.

The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing will be responsible for accurately reporting physician services for billing purposes.

The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing will alternate on-call responsibilities with Director of Clinical Services - Behavioral Health, alternating a week on/week off and alternating holidays as agreed upon.

The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing must also conduct him/herself in a professional and positive manner.

The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing will mentor staff and validate staff performance.

The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing will attend and participate in meetings/committees for process and performance improvement.

The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing will assist the Director of Clinical Services - Behavioral Health, primary nursing staff and Primary Therapist in oversight of the intake of referrals and Psychiatric Intake/Referral Assessment Worksheet.

The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing must be able to act as Department Director in absence of Director of Clinical Services-Behavioral Health.

Ability to supervise staff members who provide direct patient care.

Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.

Practices within the scope of the license.

Utilization of critical thinking skills.

Required SkillsRequired Experience

Minimum Education

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Licensed and currently registered as a professional in the state.

Required Licenses

Registered Nurse

Current state registration as RN (or eligibility to do so).
