Sierra Nevada Corporation Engineering Technician IV (Propulsion / Engine) in Hood River, Oregon

In this role you will have great latitude to establish and perform as an Engineering Technician IV, you will be regarded as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and use your skills and expertise to perform a variety of duties in the electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and/or propulsion. You'll be responsible for constructing, troubleshooting, calibrating, testing, and maintaining our equipment, components, devices, or systems. You'll ensure our systems and components meet established specifications. You will support internal and external project efforts by developing and conducting engine performance testing, identifying key test activities, safely operating and testing UAS propulsion systems, working with engineering groups to identify and resolve design flaws and deficiencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe UAS operations and engine testing

  • Operation and maintenance of the Engine run cells

  • Assemble of propulsion system

  • Set up engine test cell and run engine testing • Document test results

Must-haves:

  • Associate's degree in a related field of study, at least 10 years of relevant experience

  • A higher-level degree may substitute for experience

  • Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education

  • Ability to understand and interpret complex technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals and/or publications

  • Comprehensive understanding of the use of standard laboratory test equipment, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, Oscilloscope, Pitot static equipment, other measurement equipment, hand tools, and power tools

  • Understanding of piston driven engines (2t, 4t, SI, CI)

  • Experience with piston engine assembly

  • Experience with Electronic Fuel Injection calibration and testing

  • Experience with electrical system diagnostics and troubleshooting

  • Experience with fuel system diagnostics and troubleshooting

  • Experience with engine dynamometer testing preferred

  • Experience with harness assembly

Preferred:

  • IPC certificate

  • Basic skills with engine and avionics installation tooling, wiring, wiring repair, and wiring installation

  • Understanding of soldering techniques

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience with 3-D CAD software

  • Experience with metal fabrication
