BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P HS SECURITY Department of the P FACILITIES & SECURITY Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional Supervisor)

JOB FUNCTION:

Responsible for the activities associated with the security of the company's property, personnel, and information. Establishes, maintains, and enforces adequate security regulations and procedures for the organization. Includes oversight of governmental security programs (Dept of Defense, Dept of Energy, etc) as well as physical security of facilities. Provides corporate-wide support for implementation and optimization of policies, procedures, programs, projects and data analytics.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Supervision

  • Supervise security personnel, provides day to day direction and support, conducts periodic site inspections, one-on-one reviews and on-the-job training, as necessary.

  • Conducts risk assessments and security inspections of facilities to identify security weaknesses and makes recommendations to management that enhance the security of these facilities and the protection of employees and assets.

  • Assists with processing/researching Company records pursuant to subpoenas, court orders, or summons.

  • Assist/coordinates/facilitates the installation, maintenance, and repair of closed-circuit television, cameras, etc.

  • Maintains strategic alliances and serves as the principal liaison with county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, prosecutorial agencies, and emergency authorities to ensure maximum support and prompt assistance as needed.

  • Maintains strong working relationships with the security departments of other corporations including those of major customers and critical infrastructure designated companies.

  • Provides direction to Contractor Account Manager and Site Supervisor(s).

  • Responsible for scheduling and ensuring that all security posts at company facilities are adequately staffed.

  • Ensures all security personnel completes required training, including remedial training and annual re-certifications.

  • Ensures all required personal certifications in CPR, AED, Self-Defense and driver license are completed prior to expiration.

  • Leads and implements LEAN continuous improvement best practices to enhance and achieve operational excellence with a safety mindset.

    Administrative, Fiscal and Miscellaneous Duties & Responsibilities

  • Establishes, coordinates and monitors service contracts, including change orders on services to completion. Works with contractors and staff to ensure contract compliance, coordinating and facilitating meetings as necessary. Ensures the contract documents adequately protect the company. Directs the resolution of contract disputes. Verifies contractor invoices.

  • Provides direction and lead support to Contractor management personnel.

  • Coordinates with Workforce Staffing for personnel terminations and suspensions.

  • Reconciles timesheet entry with invoicing by Service Contractor to ensurebillings are received and paid on time.

  • Liaison with Project Managers for timely completion of all security capital projects.

  • Manage security related projects and programs.

  • Executes continuous improvement initiatives.

    Investigative and Enforcement Duties & Responsibilities*

  • Conducts high-quality investigations to protect personnel, information, assets and revenue from fraud, theft and misuse.

  • Reports investigative facts and findings to management and uses results to identify weaknesses or opportunities for fraud, theft or misuse.

  • Investigates/assists law enforcement with crimes committed against Hawaiian Electric Company.

  • Responds to the scene of any major incident, crime,natural disaster or unusual circumstances, including fires, oil spills and downed utility poles.

  • Crime scene investigative liaison with police, fire and ambulance.

  • Supervise and direcst security officers at the scene, in lieu of or in addition to, Contractor supervisors, as the situation may require.

  • Initiates and submits incident reports.

  • Where Contractor supervisors may be required to conduct preliminary investigations, provides direction and proper follow-upas may be necessary and/or appropriate.

  • Responsible for parking enforcement at all Hawaiian Electric Company facilities which may require warnings, citations, towing of vehicles and removal of discarded items.

  • Designated security witness for court appearances.

    Incident Command–Oil Spill, Outages, Natural Disaster, Terrorist and Criminal Attacks*

  • First Responder to incident scene.

  • Establish incident perimeter and safe zone.

  • Assumes responsibility as the Incident Scene Commander until properly relieved.

  • Responsible for traffic control at the scene and vicinity.

  • Incident scene liaison and coordinator with Police, Fire, Emergency Medical Services, Civil Defense and all other responding entities.

  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    Knowledge Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.

  • Associate or Bachelor Degree preferred.

  • Strong computer skills to be able to operate all proprietary software programs utilized by the Security Division.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of all major aspects of physical security.

  • Access Controls

  • Knowledge of audio, silent and wireless security Alarm systems

  • Intrusion Detection Systems

  • Legal knowledge of criminal law and rules of evidence

  • Thorough knowledge of LEAN continuous principles and best practices to achieve operational excellence.

  • Thorough knowledge of SafeStart principles and best practices to achieve a safe workplace environment.

    Skills Requirements

  • Must have or be able to qualify for a current State of Hawaii driver’s license and must meet the requirements for required driving positions as stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Company Drivers policy.

  • Valid CPR Certification; American Heart Association preferred.

  • Valid AED Certification.

  • Valid PPCT or MOAB Certification (self-defense).

  • Valid HAZWOPER certification (one year time limit to acquire for new employee).

  • Amateur Radio (Technician) License (6 months time period to acquire for new employees).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, to include dealing with sensitive, difficult or confrontational issues.

  • Hawaiian Electric Company Safety Training (within first month of employment).

  • Hawaiian Electric Company Driver Safety Training (within first month of employment).

  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification from American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS) preferred.

  • Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities during an emergency, and natural disasters.

  • Must have strong listening skills.

  • Strong supervisory/leadership skills and abilities to work with a variety of individuals occasionally dealing with sensitive, difficult or confrontational issues.

  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a variety of individuals at all levels within and outside the company using tact, courtesy and discretion.

    Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years of law enforcement first-line supervisory experience or equivalent experience.

  • Must meet all training and registration requirements mandated byHRS §463-10.5.
