Manager, Regulatory & Public Affairs Asia

Reporting to VP, Head of Regulatory & Public Affairs (RPA)Asia, this position will be working closely with Global and Asia RPA, Global and Asia and Legal, Compliance, Communications and business teams to conduct/ manage policy analysis, government and stakeholder engagement, advocacy and thought leadership programs to build trust among government officials and stakeholders and create a favourable business environment for our business in Asia. The position will be based in Hong Kong

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Head of RPA Asia and Legal/ Compliance/RPA team in Asia markets to execute regulatory and public affairs programs to support our life insurance and wealth and asset management business in Asia.

  • Support Manulife’s relations building/strengthening with policy makers, regulators, and other key stakeholders in the Asia region to raise Manulife’s profile and reputation as a trusted and responsible foreign investor and industry leader.

  • Work closely with the Asia Sustainability team to support the roll out of Manulife’s ESG efforts in the region.

  • Work with the global, regional and territory teams to conduct analysis on key political, major public policy and regulatory changes related to our business strategy and development in the region.

  • Support Global/Asia/Emerging Markets CEO’s in-market government/stakeholder engagement programs and prepare briefing notes as required.

  • Work closely with Legal & Compliance team and business teams to support regulatory approvals for licences and transactions.

  • Work with Legal and Compliance teams in the regional office and Asia markets on in-market advocacy initiatives linked to opportunities and impediments to Manulife’s business, as well as policy thought leadership programs such as joint research/seminars with the policy makers, regulators and industry associations on key issues/themes in line with Manulife’s business strategy and the markets’ top policy priorities.

Required Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience in government and/or public affairs.

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly understand the issues facing Manulife and the insurance/wealth and asset management industry and be an effective problem-solving partner with business teams in the markets.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in Cantonese, Mandarin Chinese and English.

  • The proven ability of teamwork and partnership, self-motivated, flexible, adaptable, detail and results oriented.

  • Ability to prioritize and balance competing issues and direct resources accordingly under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

  • Strict adherence to confidentiality and always exhibits a high level of professionalism.

  • Strong coordinating and project management skills to ensure the efficient and timely delivery of projects in high quality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate and/or master’s degree in economics, finance, political science, or international relations is preferred, knowledge of the financial (especially insurance and/or asset management) industry would be considered an asset.
