SMX is looking for a skilled and motivated Part-time Network Installer (Telecommunications Mechanic II) to join our high-impact integration team supporting mission-critical operations. This role focuses on installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting copper and fiber-optic cabling infrastructures for secure communication networks, audio/visual systems, video-teleconferencing (VTC), and Electronic Security Systems (ESS). The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working in structured cabling environments, follows safety codes and industry best practices, and thrives supporting high-profile Department of Defense and Federal government clients. The Network Installer may also assist with the integration of digital switching equipment, racks and miscellaneous telephone, radio, fire alarms, intrusion alarms, and computer data circuits and related apparatus .

This position requires a DoD Secret with eligibility for Top-Secret which requires US citizenship for work on DoD contracts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Install category 5e, category 6, multi-pair backbone copper cable and fiber optic structured cable at various locations.

  • Install or maintain existing fire stopping systems in conduits, trays, wall/ceiling/floor penetrations.

  • Install various types of communication systems, including inside and outside plant.

  • Performs fiber optic ribbon splicing.

  • Documents network architecture by labeling and routing equipment and cables; records configuration diagrams and specifications.

  • Often assigned as on-site team lead and directly reports to Integration Team Manager.

  • Responsible for maintaining safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal requirements. (BICSI EIA/TIA, OSHA)

  • Install conduit, cable trays, and basket trays

  • Routinely lift 50 lbs.

  • Travel up to 75% of the time.

Required Skills & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  • 2-3 years of experience testing, troubleshooting, installing, and terminating fiber optic & copper cable infrastructure.

  • 2-3 years of experience with infrastructure installation or network infrastructure support.

  • Ability to follow specific instructions to assemble or construct equipment & parts and service or repair instruments & equipment.

  • Experience using hand and power tools.

  • Ability to obtain valid US Passport within 90 days of hire.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Industry certifications preferred, including BICSI Installer I or II, fiber or copper, other industry manufacturer certifications, and OSHA10 safety certification

  • DoD8570/DoD8140 IAT II certification (e.g., Sec+)

  • A/V Installations Certification

  • Electronic Security System Certification (Lenel, AMAG, or DMP)

  • Experience finishing drywall and other light construction tasks necessary to complete installations of electronics equipment.

The proposed salary for this position is:

$61,400—$92,200 USD
