What you will do

Let’s do this! Let’s change the world! In this vital role, you will

you will provide engineering direction to execute sophisticated maintenance activities and/or to operate assigned equipment, facility, utility, and Mechanical/HVAC, Fire Protection, and Life Safe Gas Detection Systems in accordance with established guidelines and operating procedures. You will also conduct intermediate troubleshooting and employ advanced predictive technologies to identify root cause and appropriate corrective actions to diagnose or avert equipment problems. This role will be supporting the Amgen North Carolina Plant as part of the F&E Infrastructure operations department.

Independently provides and/or advises on process optimization strategies and/or troubleshooting of operational issues in the site utilities operation and Electrical systems. Applies advanced and diverse engineering principles to the design and implementation of major system modifications, experiments, process and/or capital projects. Develops, coordinates, analyzes, and presents interpretation of results for operational issues or engineering projects of significant scope and complexity.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Complete sophisticated or novel assignments requiring development of new and/or improved engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Design, review, and leadsmechanical/HVAC,Fire Protection, and Life Safe Gas Detectionsystems and subsystems focusing on safety,efficiency, reliability, and related applicable compliancewith building safety codes and FM Global insurance Design Guideline requirements.

  • Mechanical and HVAC systems design and design reviews for site facilities

  • Developmechanical and HVACrequirements and site specifications.

  • Determine cost effectivemechanical and HVACdesign solutions for manufacturability.

  • Collaborate effectively with technical cross-discipline to develop innovative system solutions.

  • Prepare and conduct technical design reviews.

  • Develop engineering policies and procedures that affect multiple organizational units.

  • Supervise, coordinate and review workcontractors/supplierson an ongoing basis as well as on a project basis.

  • Employ sophisticated engineering techniques and/or modifications of advanced techniques within area of engineering expertise.

  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices outside the area of expertise to a broad variety of assignments in related fields.

  • Serve as a peer-recognized engineering technology specialist for low and medium voltage electrical systems, with overall responsibility for determining methodologies in that area.

  • Lead the equipment’s and/or systems related to theSite Mechanical/ HVAC Systems

  • Own and maintain related drawings andAirflow, damper schedules (FDs, FSDs) and AHU ZoningDiagrams.

  • Provide mentorship and technical expertise totechniciansto support the Site manufacturing operations.

  • Application of mature engineering knowledge in planning and conducting projects.

  • Operate under a culture of problem solving and continuous improvement.

  • Prompt and regular attendance to workplace.

  • Work with global engineering, manufacturing, process development, utilities, facilities, quality assurance and validation departments in developing requirements and recommendations for large and/or highly complex system/facility modifications.

  • Work with project managers to complete design and engineering projects within schedule, budget, and quality constraints. Coordinate the work of consultants, architects, and engineering firms on development of design documents.

  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems requiring the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.

  • Interact effectively with variety of communication and working styles.

  • Management of contractors and vendors and develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma / GED and 10 years of Maintenance or Engineering experience OR

  • Associate’s degree and 8 years of Maintenance or Engineering experience OR

  • Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of Maintenance or Engineering experience OR

  • Master’s degree and 2 years of Maintenance or Engineering experience OR

  • Doctorate degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.

  • 6+ years’ experience in engineering or maintenance or related function within the biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical and/or Medical Device industry.

  • 5+ years’ experience and track record of ensuring compliance in a highly regulated environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully process and/or validate machines.

  • Proven experience in CAPA process management.

  • Technical experience with critical and non-critical utilities systems (Example: HVAC, Compress Air, etc.).

  • Ability to lead multiple tasks and effectively set priorities.

  • Strong technical writing skills.

  • Have an understanding of: Maintenance and asset management systems such as Maximo, building automation system operation, navigation, and reporting, vibration monitoring and analysis, equipment sizing, selection, installation, and maintenance, ductwork and piping sizing, design, installation, and maintenance, air handling system psychrometrics, cold storage refrigeration systems, and equipment operation & maintenance (HVAC control systems, air handlers, fans, coils, humidifiers, filters and filtration, terminal devices, refrigeration equipment, compressors, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, boilers, HEPA filters, including testing & certification, fume hoods and biosafety cabinets, including testing & certification) and system and equipment troubleshooting.

  • Ability to tactfully negotiate and positively influence peers and executive leadership

  • Knowledge of industry trends (e.g., regulatory and compliance, technology, human performance programs, sustainability, etc.)

  • Association of Energy Engineers CEM (Certified Energy Managers) is desirable.
