JOB SUMMARY:

Using engineering and continuous improvement techniques, establishes optimum manufacturing cell configuration (creation of most efficient manufacturing cell from material inflow, through production, to outflow). Leads process of industrializing and standardization of product routings, process descriptions, material flow/usage and throughput rates within the vision of Lean Manufacturing. Provides input for facility planning, plant layouts, and performs capacity studies to determine if plants are capable of filling customer orders and develops detailed plans/layouts to maximize process efficiencies and minimize space costs. Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives. May provide work direction and/or supervision to other staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead new quotation activities by providing detailed Cost Estimates to include process flows, capital investments, plant layout, tooling, work holding, gaging, perishable tooling, cycle times, planning and launch costs along with developing master timing charts for achieving manufacturing milestones

  • Leads process of industrialization and standardization of product routings, process descriptions, material flow/usage and throughput rates within the vision of Lean Manufacturing. Maintains manufacturing database to track and ensure accurate process descriptions, routings, and throughput rates and raw material usage documentation.

  • Lead Design to Cost, evaluate product specifications of components and assemblies in close coordination with Product Engineering and Purchasing

  • Develop, refine, and lead manufacturing processes in all manufacturing locations, including plant layout concepts, supply base, logistics, process flows, and workforce utilization to attain maximum efficiency of installed capacity.

  • Provide Manufacturing Engineering leadership, expertise and support while maintaining a broad knowledge of product design, manufacturing, and assembly processes.

  • Ensure the consideration of internal process standards and lessons learned, make sure that experiences and lessons learned are communicated back to the organization.

  • Lead the planning phase for assigned programs and hand over to the manufacturing site for the program launch phase.

  • Work with manufacturing to establish, select, procure, and install equipment to support the launch of new programs.

  • Develop the Production Concept during the Quotation and Serial Development Phase

  • Develop the Production Process during the Quotation and Serial Development Phase

  • Develop the Production Equipment during the Quotation and Serial Development Phase

  • Develop the Production Tooling and Gages during the Quotation and Serial Development Phase

  • Develop the Production Infrastructure and Layout during the Quotation and Serial Development Phase

  • Conduct the FMEA Process during the Serial Development Phase

  • Using engineering and continuous improvement techniques, establishes optimum manufacturing cell configuration (creation of most efficient manufacturing cell from material inflow, through production, to outflow). Determines product flow by evaluating resource requirements, material flow, equipment rates, and ergonomic considerations. Establishes most efficient machine rates by determining most efficient, ergonomically correct means of establishing optimum manufacturing cell configuration.

  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives. Monitors and controls objectives and costs of assigned project and establishes program timelines. May provide work direction and/or supervision to other staff.

  • Performs all work in compliance with Magna and Magna Sealing and Glass Systems Health, Safety and environmental policies and procedures as well as all federal, State and local laws; promptly report any hazardous condition or workplace injury to immediate supervisor or EHS designate.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; or equivalent. Demonstrated understanding of Lean Manufacturing, workstation layout, process flow, and other current techniques related to industrial engineering.

  • Five years professional level experience in engineering or project/program management. Must be broadly familiar with technologies, products, process, machines, etc.

  • Demonstrated strong communication skills to communicate with other functional areas both internally and externally for successful completion of projects while maintaining productive relationships with key functional areas.

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills to influence decisions that affect assigned projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze problems and develop appropriate solutions to assist in troubleshooting problems.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities in managing programs to meet goals (i.e. successful program launch). Demonstrated ability to work on long-term assignments, broad in nature, using a high level of originality and ingenuity. Must be able to work independently with substantial latitude for unreviewed action or decision.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage several large and complex projects simultaneously. Must have experience with past project financial responsibilities. Must be able to manage projects toward departmental goals.

  • Demonstrated ability to thoroughly research, recommend, and oversee implementation of new materials, processes, etc. and present information.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills (8D, Shainin, Six Sigma, Red-X)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, Spanish is a plus

  • Self-motivated, team player with the ability to lead a team

WORK ENVIRONMENT :

  • Office Environment: 60%

  • The employee must be able to tolerate sitting for extended periods of time.

  • It requires (Near/Far/Depth/Color) vision in order to be able to tolerate the eye strain associated with working on a computer throughout the workday.

  • Must be able to tolerate the use of a keyboard and mouse on average of 6 hours per workday.

  • Plant Environment / Ability to Travel: 40%

  • While working in the Plant environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes, and various levels of temperature created by the manufacturing process.

  • Flexible with the ability to travel globally.
