Job Description

Pay Rate: $42.19 to $43.20 per hour.

Position Purpose:

Under general guidance of the Assistant Project Manager, the O&M Techs will perform hands on operations of the water treatment plant and/or conveyance system.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose operating problems and perform or direct necessary corrective actions.

  • Enter data, prepare reports, and maintain records of plant operations.

  • Comply and report non-compliance with Veolia and Project Policies and Procedures.

  • Collect samples and perform routine laboratory tests and analyses.

  • Read gauges and meters, start/stop equipment and operate valves to route and control flow, make process control adjustments, determine and set proper chemical dosage and flow rates, operate PLCs and SCADA systems.

  • Inspect equipment to identify and perform needed maintenance and repairs.

  • Record and enter data into computers, make entries in plant logs, and prepare a variety of written reports.

Work Environment:

  • This position is based in the water treatment system and work is performed both inside and outside with exposure to all kinds of weather conditions.

  • Employee may be exposed to some noise, dust, fumes, gases, greases, oils, solvents, and vibrations.

  • Employee may work on slippery/uneven surfaces, around machinery with moving parts, moving objects/vehicles, and ladder/scaffolding, below ground and may be exposed to water and other liquid materials.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of water treatment plant operations; operating principles of valves, pumps, and motors; safe work practices.

  • Able to type and enter data in computer spreadsheets and data management systems.

  • General knowledge of computer operations.

  • Basic writing, verbal communication, and math skills.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • Valid MA Driver's license is required.

  • Possess and maintain a Massachusetts Drinking Water Grade 3 Treatment License for primary operators for Grade IV treatment facilities in accordance with Massachusetts Drinking Water Regulations or the ability to obtain within 1 year.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk or sit; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; kneel, crouch or crawl.

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision as well as the ability to distinguish color and shades.
