BAE Systems is looking for a qualified System Safety Engineer to join our team for an exciting opportunity supporting work on a unique government contract. The contract assists in acquisition and technical sustainment engineering and will augment government resources. The contract also provides breadth and depth of capabilities for system engineering and integration, risk management, technical assessment, acquisition program management, strategy development, organization and change management, interface with operations and logistics, business analysis, mission effectiveness, and demonstration/validation.

About the Job: Our experts are responsible for integrated weapon system management, from inception to retirement. As a System Safety Engineer, you will work on a high-performing team and provide subject matter expertise to the government customer tomaintain their System Safety program for the Minuteman III (MM III) Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) weapon system in accordance with requirements detailed in Department of Defense, United States Strategic Command, and Air Force directives, manuals and instructions.The System Safety program encompasses processes to identify and mitigate hazards associated with weapon safety, occupational safety and health, and explosive safety. System safety is considered throughout equipment lifecycle, which includes design, testing, use, and disposal.To sustain the MM III ICBM weapon system, a number of issues associated with obsolescence of the system will be addressed. A qualified candidate will:
Maintain the government s Safety Risk Management Program IAWMIL-STD-882E, System Safety , DAFI 91-202, The US Air Force Mishap Prevention Program ,and the Safety Risk Management Plan, including the official files of all risk assessment/acceptance
Conduct engineering reviews and assessments of subsystem contractor deliverables when risks are addressed at the subsystem-level, to include Risk Assessment Studies, System Safety Hazard Analysis Report, Safety Assessment Reports, Risk Acceptance Recommendations, Threat Hazard Assessments, briefings, point papers and white papers, Safety & Nuclear Technical Memoranda, and source data for Technical Orders (TOs). Produce similar deliverables when the risk requires system-level resolution
Identify and manage safety risks that could result in personnel injury or equipment damage (e.g., platforms, electronics, chemicals, explosives, software, ordnance, and/or system-of-systems)
Provide system safety, ground safety, and weapons safety support and monitoring for compliance with applicable USAF 91-series policies, including mishap investigation, operational hazard identification, mitigation and closure, trend analysis and reporting.
Review Engineering Technical Analysis Requests, Maintenance Assistance Requests, USAF Form 202 requests, Test Directives, Test Plans and Engineering Procedures, T.O. drawing, specification, and data changes in support of depot and operational test and maintenance programs.
Assist in completing assigned action items from mishaps to develop trend data to identify and correct problems before they occur/reoccur, including tracking the status of action items, providing detailed recommendations to close assigned action items from deficiency reports, high accident potential reports, safety investigation board reports, operational review board reports, and the contractor s corrective action plan.
Become familiar with the ICBM MM III Hazard Tracking System (HTS) in order to effectively and efficiently manipulate the tracking safety and hazard assessments, update the database, and explain and mentor IPT team members on how to use the HTS
Devise new techniques and approaches and provide solutions to a wide range of technical problems by drawing on their own areas of technical specialty and consulting with other engineering specialists for technologies where they do not have in-depth expertise. Make decisions based on available data, selection of materials and required parameters.
Review and coordinate on work from other team members to ensure progress is maintained to achieve specified aims; interpret and prepare data for reports on technical findings, recommendations, accomplishments and progress measured against specific plans; ensure conduct and performance of assignments is conducted as required by contractual agreements.
Attend conferences and meetings to represent assigned activity. Develop working group meeting agendas, prepare and consolidate briefing materials, provide meeting minutes, and draft answers to action items assigned by other agencies or organizations.
Evaluate plans and criteria for technical activities in their specialty and recommend alternatives as required to comply with customer and company obligations. May lead projects or segments of major projects responsible for achievement of schedule, cost, and technical performance objectives.
Complete other duties as assigned.
This System Safety Engineer position is located at Hill Air Force Base, Utah and is currently permitted to be hybrid telework two days a week but requires the ability to come on-site when required to access classified materials or respond to customer needs.Pursuant to Government contract, this position requires U.S. Citizenship status, and qualified candidates must be eligible for and successfully obtain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Required Education:Bachelor or Master of Science degree in systems, mechanical, or civil engineering from an ABET-accredited school with three to five years of directly related experience (two years with a Master of Science degree) in systems integration and analysis of military hardware and software systems/processes.
Required Experience and Skills:
Able to work independently, demonstrate strong initiative, and organize and complete daily tasks with minimal or no supervision
Possess strong communication skills (oral and written) commensurate with expected mid- to senior-level civilian and military participants from various US Government agencies, and internal and external stakeholders
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products,including but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook
You must be a US Citizen who is able to obtain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance within a reasonable amount of time upon hire then maintain this clearance in accordance with criteria established by the US Government
Commitment to results and success in accomplishing goals, as well as a demonstrated ability to quickly learn and understand unique system requirements
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Current U.S. Government Secret or higher security clearance highly desired (but not required)
Experience with Department of Defense and U.S. Air Force system safety requirements, or military technology and technical data highly desired (but not required)
Previous experience or training (or willingness to complete training) in Systems, Weapons, Explosive, and/or Software Safety in order to capably serve as a back-up to the government Safety personnel in these areas
Willingness to support the customer by learning new functions in Microsoft Office products, including but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint, is highly desired
Previous experience or training (or willingness to complete training) in system safety risk management to assess risks, develop mitigation rationale, and prepare risk acceptance rationale to present to the Risk Acceptance Authority
Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint and Atlassian Jira Project Management Software highly desired (but not required)
Active Associate Safety Professional or Certified Safety Professional Certification highly desired (but not required)
Available contract funding does not allow consideration of candidates with over 6 years of experience
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $75510 - $128340

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
