About This Job

Air and Space Force Solutions, a business unit within BAE Systems, has an opening at our Hill Air Force Base, Utah location for a Data Scientist. The selected candidate will join our Information Services team and have an important role in supporting our mission of strategic deterrence through continual improvement and innovation. We develop sophisticated software and other solutions for a multitude of critical challenges facing the ICBM and other mission spaces. Our culture is defined by collaboration and excellence, and as such, you will be paired with a mentor within a small team environment to facilitate a smooth onboarding process as you become familiar with our missions and the technologies we employ to deliver discriminating capabilities to our customers.

This position will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Participate in the design of end-to-end business intelligence solutions, establishing best practices and standards for the organization's BI practice

  • Work with research scientists and engineers to implement advanced algorithms, software, and models for a broad array of applications, including machine learning, data fusion, data science, and other advanced analytics. This work will be performed working directly with an experienced cross-functional development team utilizing a development platform/environment that aligns with DevSecOps and GitOps principles towards CI/CD

  • Evaluate and select appropriate data analytics tools, technologies, and platforms to support the organization's data strategy

  • Approach problem-solving through persistence, innovation, teamwork and a willingness to meet challenges head on

  • Collaborate as a member of the data team to build and enhance the BI infrastructure, including data warehouses, data lakes, and reporting/visualization tools

  • Collaborate with the UX Team to build wireframes and design prototypes

  • Work with Product Owner to break the work down into a prioritized product backlog

  • Work with the Product Owner, technical teams, and Scrum Master to plan sprints

  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and advancements in the field of data science and provide recommendations for incorporating new technologies and methodologies into the practice

Certification Requirement

If not already DoD 8570 IAT Level II compliant, the applicant must receive CompTIA Security or other DoD IAT Level II certification within 6 months of employment.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

Required Degree and Years of Experience

  • High School Diploma and 16 years of relevant experience, or

  • BS/BA Degree and 12 years of relevant experience, or

  • MS/MA Degree and 10 years of relevant experience

  • (Degree should be in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Analytics, Physics, Statistics or other relevant discipline)

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Experience providing solutions to challenging problems where technical and business demands conflict

  • Experience working on technical teams to design, develop, and implement enterprise IT applications to support business data enablement requirements

  • Proficient understanding of data visualizations tools, data repositories, scheduling and delivery best practices, and other business processes

  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) as well as the ability to interact with stakeholders, team members, external vendors, various levels of management, and internal clients with assorted levels of data and business intelligence experience

  • Experience resolving technical issues through debugging, research, and investigation

  • A basic understanding of software development lifecycle best practices

  • A basic understanding of Agile best practices including Scrum and DevSecOps

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Familiar with design and architectural patterns

  • Familiar with SQL databases: MS SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL

  • Understanding fundamental design principles behind a scalable application

  • Implementing automated testing platforms and unit tests

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $91980 - $156330

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
