Job Description

BAE Systems is seeking a motivated, self-driven, Cloud Administrator for an exciting opportunity to support the Air Force's acquisition of the next generation Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM).

This role will be working directly with and providing leadership to experienced software development team, the Digital Transformation Office (DTO), in creating a platform to allow development inside a cloud environment that aligns with DevSecOps and GitOps principles towards CI/CD. The role will help with rapidly deploying web applications into various cloud platforms with a security mindset. You will develop infrastructure automation scripts for as IaC (Infrastructure as Code) for various cloud platforms.

Why the DTO and Sentinel? The DTO supports an array of clients and transformational initiatives across the Air and Space Force. The Sentinel Program specifically is an enormous and complex Mega-Project modernizing the entire ICBM weapon system deployed across tens of thousands of square miles in five states. Without a doubt Sentinel is one of the DOD s most important acquisition efforts for the next decade, if not longer. It includes a complete refurbishment of hundreds of aging Minuteman III ICBM facilities to secure and support a newly designed, technologically advanced ballistic missile. It will also provide an entirely new command and control system as well as vast array of required support equipment specifically engineered to operate and sustain the new weapon system over the decades ahead, and remain operational until at least 2075.

Job Details

This Cloud Administrator position will support the DTO, responsible for supporting the development of next generation modeling and simulation software in support of the entire ICBM enterprise and an array of other software projects. This position supports information technology configuration and certification for spatial data systems, developing client-server data analytics platforms and providing project execution support to clients throughout all phases of planning, restoration and modernization efforts at current and future facilities across the enterprise.

The ideal candidate will have a firm grasp of emerging technologies, cloud platforms, and applications and an ability to customize them to help our business become more secure and efficient through strategy, design, development, and implementation of projects in the cloud. Knowledge of cloud maintenance and industry knowledge of cloud best practices are essential to keep us on the cutting edge. The cloud admin will have an immediate impact on the day-to-day efficiency of IT operations and an ongoing impact on growth.

This person will protect our critical systems and assets, build solutions, implement new software and hardware, provide training, and assist in developing the overall IT strategy. From early on, the Cloud Administrator will empower breakthrough innovations, take on challenging assignments, lead initiatives, and be responsible for results.

Objectives and Resposibilities of this role

  • Work in tandem with our Platform Engineer team to identify and implement the most optimal cloud-based solutions

  • Define and document best practices and strategies regarding application deployment and infrastructure maintenance

  • Ensure application performance, uptime, and scale, maintaining high standards for code quality and thoughtful design

  • Manage cloud environments in accordance with company security guidelines

  • Demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills, with an ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity

  • Troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, fix and document problems, and implement preventive measures

  • Educate teams on the implementation of new cloud-based initiatives, providing associated training when necessary

  • Perform server administration tasks (ex: user/group, security permissions, group policies); research event-log warnings and errors; and monitor resources to ensure that systems architecture components work together seamlessly

  • Perform routine and scheduled audits of all systems, including backups

The position is being filled as a part of the Future ICBM Sustainment and Acquisition Construct (FISAC) under which BAE Systems augments organic government resources by providing breadth and depth of capabilities for system engineering and integration, risk management, technical assessment, acquisition program management, strategy development, organization and change management, interface with operations and logistics, business analysis, mission effectiveness, and ICBM Demonstration / Validation (Dem/Val) Integrated Applications Programs. Position will be located at or near Hill AFB, Utah.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

3 years of progressive experience with B.S. degree:

  • Knowledge of scripting languages and methods to automate processes.

  • Developing on or serving as a system administrator for Linux systems

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain environments in Linux (RHEL and Ubuntu)

  • Experience with Git

  • Gather and analyze metrics from both operating systems and applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding.

  • Support AWS or Azure cloud platforms.

  • Configuration management of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Security as Code (SaC)

  • Troubleshoot build issues, script failures, network and system errors.

  • Knowledge of programming languages and operating systems (Linux and Windows), current equipment and technologies, enterprise backup and recovery procedures, systems performance-monitoring tools, active directories, virtualization, HTTP traffic, content delivery, and caching

  • Experience in project management, application design and integration, and cloud computing (specifically Microsoft Azure)

  • Creating volumes and assigning them to servers; and remote replication

  • Document processes and procedures.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Configuration Management with Terraform, Cloud Formation, Ansible

  • CompTIA Sec certification or other DoD 8570 Certifications

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $61830 - $105120

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
