**The Town of Highlands isseeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Zoning Officer to join our team. The Zoning Officer will work directly under the Towns Planning and Development Director and is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) to support community development initiatives. REQUIREMENTS:

• Conduct zoning compliance reviews for proposed projects; Interpret and enforce the Towns UDO;
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, and developers to ensure projects meet zoning requirements;
• Manage zoning permit applications and approvals;
• Inspect different properties to ensure compliance;
• Respond to citizen complaints;
• Attend and sometimes present at monthly board meetings
• Proficiency in data analysis for zoning assessments;
• Knowledge of environmental law related to land use planning;
• Strong research skills to gather data on zoning issues;
• Ability to build and draft zoning proposals;
• Ability to use (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.);
• Ability to interact with citizens, board members, and other staff;
• Must have a valid drivers licenses and be able to lawfully operate a motor vehicle

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in planning, public administration, geography, landscape architecture,
• ORrelated field and experience in municipal or county zoning code enforcement or planning
• ORan equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have or be willing to obtain your North Carolina Zoning Official Certification.
