Cummins Inc. Supply Quality Specialist (m/w/d) in Herten, Germany

We are looking for a talented Senior Field Service Engineering Specialist to join our team specializing in Quality for our Accelera Business Segment in Herten, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.

I n this role, you will make an impact in the following ways :

  • Build Strong Relationships: Forge and maintain robust relationships with critical partners, including external suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders from Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Engineering, to enhance quality and business outcomes.

  • Supplier Selection: Participate in and support the cross-functional supplier selection process for various components, ensuring optimal choices are made.

  • Manufacturing Process Validation: Collaborate with external suppliers to ensure their manufacturing processes meet engineering prints, standards, and customer-specific requirements.

  • Advanced Quality Planning: Implement industry-standard Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) processes, Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) tools, and Cummins-specific tools to develop defect-free components within the supply base.

  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to continuous improvement projects within the external supply base by applying proven methodologies like lean and six-sigma to enhance product and process quality.

  • Supplier Audits: Conduct thorough supplier audits to mitigate risks, ensure supplier readiness, and improve supplier performance.

  • Quality Improvement Plans: Develop and support quality improvement plans for external suppliers to boost their performance and align with company standards.

  • Quality Challenge Resolution: Lead root cause analyses for external supplier-related quality issues, support the development of corrective actions, and verify their effectiveness to ensure lasting resolutions.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • College, university, or equivalent degree in Engineering or a related technical or scientific subject required.

  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

  • Experience in a Manufacturing or Engineering role in the automotive industry, or a similarly regulated industry.

Responsibilities

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) Skills: You need a strong foundation in APQP to develop and execute quality plans for external suppliers, ensuring they meet customer expectations. This includes facilitating communication and collaboration across cross-functional teams for projects related to external suppliers.

  • Quality Influence and Stakeholder Engagement: Success requires the ability to recognize and engage stakeholders, create forums for extracting their perspectives, drive constructive conflict, and influence outcomes. This ensures that Cummins makes balanced decisions that include Quality priorities.

  • Knowledge of Quality Standards: You must be well-versed in quality standards such as ISO9001:2015 and IATF16949. Applying this knowledge to develop procedures, processes, and guide external suppliers will ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and company standards.

  • Self-Organization and Problem-Solving Skills: Being self-organized with a track record of defining procedures and work descriptions is crucial. The role involves working with new technology, requiring innovative problem-solving skills without always relying on standard analytic methods. Effective communication, prioritization, and enjoying teamwork are essential traits for success in this position.
