SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Vice President, Chief Pharmacy Officer (VP/CPO) has a dyad reporting relationship, reporting directly to the Executive VP & System Chief Medical Officer and PSH MSHMC VP Operations. The role has oversight for system pharmacy and for day-to-day operations of MSHMC Pharmacy services, and will partner collaboratively with clinical and administrative leaders, to include senior executive leadership and departmental and service line Chiefs and Chairs. The VP/CPO will divide their time approximately 50:50 between PSH Pharmacy oversight and PSH MSHMC Pharmacy oversight.

The Vice President, Chief Pharmacy Officer (VP/CPO) will provide vision, strategy, innovation, and leadership for the enterprise-wide pharmacy service line to ensure optimal clinical services, safety, and quality related to medication use and pharmacy-related financial contributions in alignment with the organization's strategic goals and operational priorities.

The Vice President, Chief Pharmacy Officer (VP/CPO) will ensure that Penn State Health is a national leader in pharmacy by identifying, assessing, developing, planning, implementing, and maintaining leading-edge technology, innovative programs, and contemporary pharmacy practices to drive outstanding patient care, employee engagement, patient experience, and overall performance.

The VP/CPO will have administrative responsibility for all sub-function pharmacy domains across the Penn State Health enterprise including but not limited to: inpatient/acute care, ambulatory clinical care, retail/specialty, medication access programs, oncology/sterile and non-sterile compounding, research, financial/business operations, supply chain, pharmacy contracting, formulary management, safety/quality, revenue cycle integrity, data science (future), informatics/automation, 340B, controlled substance diversion prevention, accreditation, regulatory, residency, academics/scholarly activities, strategic planning, project management, business development, emergency preparedness, and business continuity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.

  • Advanced degree in pharmacy or healthcare-related field such as Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science (MS) in pharmacy, Master of Public Health (MPH), or Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA).

  • Possesses and maintains current unrestricted licensure as a license-eligible pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. If not licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, must be licensed within six months of hire date.

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience obtained within an academic healthcare system or other large complex health system.
